Overall great value... very quiet, "connected", easy to install
My 14-year-old garage door opener died horribly last week, and after figuring up the cost of replacement parts ($160 + shipping), I decided to buy this unit since it was on sale. I was a bit concerned about purchasing this model when I saw the average rating was 3.5 stars, but when I read the negative reviews, they all seemed to share two complaints: (1) Craftsman does not openly advertise that AssureLink isn't free. The first 12 months are free, but after that it's $20/year. (2) HomeLink on cars made prior to 2008 won't work with this garage door opener. My responses to these two issues: (1) True. This is why I didn't give it five stars. Sears/Craftsman should include this information on their website and on the product packaging. I read these reviews prior to going to the store, so I made an informed and conscious decision to give it a try. Since I got the opener on sale ($250), I felt the AssureLink was a freebie anyway. Speaking of which, it's a neat little freebie! I like it, and it was easy to set up. (Although it took a couple of tries for my phone -- or the AssureLink transceiver -- to find the garage door opener.) Also, you can go into the smartphone app's security settings (under "Account" > "Security") and disable the requirement to log in every time you launch the app. (2) Also true. However, this is true for all garage door openers made in 2011 and up. I called HomeLink (1-800-355-3515) and gave them my information, and I qualified for a free HomeLink Repeater kit. From what I've found online, you qualify if your car is a 2006-2008 model with factory-installed HomeLink system. What I like best about this garage door opener: (1) It is QUIET. As others have said, this unit operates very quietly. This is nice since our master bathroom is above the garage. (2) Remote RANGE. While it may move a tiny bit more slowly than my previous unit, it isn't a problem since the range on the remote(s) is pretty good (150 ft or more). (3) Motion SENSOR. The motion sensor on the door control is quite handy so I don't have to fumble for a light switch in the dark. It is fairly sensitive, but not so much so that it goes off when a bird flies by outside the garage window (which the door control faces). (4) EASE of installation. My wife thought I should hire a professional installer, but it turned out to be quite easy. The instructions are well-written and quite detailed for all aspects of assembly and installation. (5) ASSURELINK. As stated above, I view this feature as a freebie. This 3/4 hp opener costs about the same as the other 3/4 hp units without this feature, so I simply see it as a bonus feature for the first year of ownership. If I decide to continue using the feature after that, it will cost me $20 per year, which seems reasonable. At this time I doubt I'll renew, but we'll see. Also, the AssureLink website is working just fine for remote control of the opener. Also, the Craftsman smartphone app (Android for me) does allow you to uncheck the security option for requiring the password every time your start the app. In this way, you can avoid re-entering the password repeatedly. (6) Battery BACKUP. Peace of mind. The trade-off here is the cost of battery replacement, which the installation guide states should last 3-5 years. Note that the motor in the opener is a DC motor, so it runs purely off the battery. The AC is only hooked up to recharge the battery. (7) AUTOMATIC close feature. Although I haven't set it up yet, this kind of obviates the AssureLink feature. If it's set up to automatically close after a set amount of time, I don't have to worry about driving off with the door up. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

I want a $37.48 credit for the cost of a Homelink Repeater Kit

This garage door is built well and runs quiet and smooth and the Internet Connection is easy to connect and works great. The iphone app is simple and effective. . However the description as it relates to Homelink is completely misleading. It clearly states that this is compatible with the HomeLink System from Johnson Controls. When I verified compatibility on the Homelink site, it said all GMC Yukon's were compatible. Maybe it was my naivety, but my natural conclusion was that this garage door opener would therefore be compatible with the System in my 2010 GMC Yukon Denali. Very logical, so I thought.

After installing the garage door I tried several times to link to my vehicle. It simply would not connect. Believing it was something related to my procedure, I called the help number my GMC manual. The Agent asked what kind of opener I had, and when I said Craftsman Assurelink, she immediately said "I will stop you right there. Craftsman contacted us AFTER this unit came out and informed us that this unit would NOT work with this system and that they wanted to sell the repeater units to connect to this system."

So, I was forced to purchase a Repeater box for $38 bucks, to get what I thought was the most state of the art garage door opener to work with my GM vehicles.

I suggest that Sears update the description of this item to prevent more unhappy customers. I have never been unsatisfied with any purchase from Sears in the past, but I feel like I was blatantly misled on this one!

Boooooooooo.

Best one yet!

I purchased two of these to replace chain drive openers that were still operating but really noisy. I also have purchased worm drive door openers in another home in the past. These are really GREAT openers. Our bedroom is directly above the two car over-sized garage and you literally cannot hear them open and close. I was dumbfounded how quietly they operate. The doors they are attached to are 14 years old; once I lubricated the joints on the doors with these openers...no noise. I spend several days researching the best openers and these were priced at $233, so I bought two. I certainly did not need the 3/4 HP for my doors but boy did I make the right decision. The first one took me a full day to self-install, but once I saw the rhythm of it, the second one was done in two hours. I hooked to my internet and downloaded the Android app to my phone and zappo, I can check their status anywhere I travel (and can open/close them with the app also). Programming is a whiz.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Here is my 2-cents. Good INFO!!!

I have only had the product for two weeks but here is what I can tell you about it. 1) It will NOT work with your HomeLink in the car. You MUST call HomeLink.com company and request a FREE repeater. Do NOT tell them that your car is older than 2011 otherwise they will charge you $49 for the repeater. It is FREE for 2011 and up. 2) The Assure Link works great from the website/Internet. However, the iPhone and Android app SUCKS and buggy. It needs work!!! 3) It is very nice a quite unit. Does not seems like 3/4 HP but works fine. 4) As far as the $20 per year fee, I think it is OK BUT it says in the item discription " No Annual Fees, Free App Download". 5) I spent the money to get two year extended warranty at $30 just to make sure it does not fail after 1 year. That said, I would still buy the unit again considering I bought it for $200. I LOVE the idea that I can open my garage door from anywhere in the world and my smartphone. It also tells you how long the door has been shut

I would recommend this product to a friend.

stay away - logic board failed within 3 weeks

This seemed like a great product in the description. It's actually a very poorly designed product. Within 3 weeks I got a "logic board error" and it would no longer move. I called the warranty number - the part won't arrive for a week and the technician isn't scheduled to come until end of the following week. We got five inches of snow today and my wife's car is out in the driveway rather than in the garage. I also can't actually lock the garage since I had to release the door from the motor, so all of my belongings in the garage could get stolen. Still have to wait a week and a half for this to be fixed. I called to ask if the part could be shipped more quickly so it would be less of an inconvenience. I was told that is not possible. Your product fails for no reason and you can't get me rush shipping?! Other than completely failing, this opener feels very cheap. The rail actually flexes when the opener runs and the 3/4 hp motor seems far weaker than my old 1/4 hp opener.

Works great, but will not work with many vehicles

I have had this opener for about 8 months, I bought it for the DC operation. I was never able to get it to work with my 2003 vehicle. I just tried to program it to my 2013 and when I could not I started to research online. In order for this work work it will cost me over $100.00 dollars. None of this is clearly listed on either the box or the manual. The only reference to it is online and it is very vague. Buyer beware research your vehicle before you buy!! Also Assure Link is $20.00 a year after the first year.

| Model# 3043 great product

Quiet. good motion sensing light that my wife loves. iPhone control is neat and very useful. auto down function a safety feature. Sears installer showed up on time, did a very good job installing, cleaned up and was worth not trying to do by myself or even by our handyman. Did not want to buy new opener but since I did, a great choice.

Should be 5 Stars

So far, this garage door opener is awesome. It is super quiet and it was very easy to install and setup. It is deserving of 5 stars, so why did I only give it 4? Well after signing up for the AssureLink, I found out that the service is only free for the first year, and $20 a year after that. I wish I would have known this before I bought this unit, I could have paid a little more and got Chamberlain's unit that now has the internet feature for free. Hopefully Sears will change this because as much as I like being able to open and close the garage with my smart phone, it isn't worth $20 to me. That means that one of the main features on this unit will stop working in a year, and that makes it a 4 star unit. If you want a super quiet garage door opener and don't need to operate it using the internet then this is a good one. If you want to be able to open it with the internet, look at Chamberlain.

Quiet - but disappointing Homelink/ Assurelink

So I will say this is very quiet and powerful. But it does NOT work with Homelink that is in almost all cars (which there is no warning about other than an extra handout in the package that says you MAY need a repeater kit) - plus there appears to be something wrong with the firmware in the opener wall mount unit that you are supposed to use to program the Android APP - the option to program it is missing. When you go to the website it lets you sign up, but then part of what comes up is a "Coming Soon" option. I did send an email to customer support to see if they can explain. If the thing weren't already installed, I'd take it back and go look for a different brand. The Assurelink seemed like a good idea - but never dreamt it would mean giving up Homelink (or having to get another adapter just for that).

BEST OPENER EVER

I bought this to replace a builders special that was installed in my home, and kept acting up after 2 years, and numerous troubleshooting issues.

I chose this because of a few options, the tri-band frequency. Like most, I live in a subdivision where routers, and multiple other garage door openers, bluetooths and remote start/controlled vehicles are. All of these items create interference. I wanted an opener to eliminate those frequency differences.

Second was the Assurelink. THIS THING IS AMAZING! Through your smart phone, you can open/close and montior your garage door. AWESOME! I went to the end of my street, roughly 1/4 mile, and opened the door from my phone. Helps out, if you have someone watching your house, or if you have kids and drive off without closing the door. (Many of times we got called about the door being open)

Third was battery back-up. Our subdivision is out in an area where the lines haven't been buried that service the subdivision, (our subdivision is buried) many of times, wind or ice will take the lines out. This will assure we can get in and out no issue.

Adjusting this unit is SO EASY! No more tweaking set screws. Push the button on the head unit to your satisfaction and set it, the head unit senses how much force is necessary to close, and the unit slows the door when nearing the open limit or close limit, so no more slamming of the door closed.

This opener did sync with my 2013 Homelink vehicle, but wouldn't with my 2002 vehicle, no big deal being that it comes with 2 clickers. The sync for the clickers and keypad can be done from the smart wall panel, which eliminates having to run up a ladder and hit the learn button.

Honestly, if you're in the market for a new garage door opener, go with this one. The belt drive and DC motor are SO QUIET! It beats the old whir and hum from the old unit. Our living room backs up to the garage, so you could hear the door open and close, constantly. Now, I can watch a movie in peace, and the door can operate. Plus with the assurelink, using your phone or computer to open the garage is convenient when you have kids wanting to get their bikes or toys and don't want to stop what you're doing to open it for them.

I bought this on sale for $279.99, and had a $10 off coupon. I find it worth the extra $40 for the battery back up compared to the other assurelink without backup. It'll pay for itself the first time!

THE BEST GARAGE DOOR OPENER I HAVE EVER SEEN, INSTALLED or OWNED!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Unbelievably Quiet!

What a great purchase! Lots of other reviews have noted how quiet this system is and it is absolutely the truth! It is so quiet that the only way you will know if your door is opening or closing is if you are actually standing in the garage.

The "bells and whistles" that come with this are great: motion sensor that turns on the light, outside keypad included, nice remotes for the car, and the internet gateway make this money well spent.

I could blab on and on about it....but it is simply a very well designed product that has many practical features. I've already recommended it to a few friends.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
