Overall great value... very quiet, "connected", easy to install
My 14-year-old garage door opener died horribly last week, and after figuring up the cost of replacement parts ($160 + shipping), I decided to buy this unit since it was on sale. I was a bit concerned about purchasing this model when I saw the average rating was 3.5 stars, but when I read the negative reviews, they all seemed to share two complaints: (1) Craftsman does not openly advertise that AssureLink isn't free. The first 12 months are free, but after that it's $20/year. (2) HomeLink on cars made prior to 2008 won't work with this garage door opener. My responses to these two issues: (1) True. This is why I didn't give it five stars. Sears/Craftsman should include this information on their website and on the product packaging. I read these reviews prior to going to the store, so I made an informed and conscious decision to give it a try. Since I got the opener on sale ($250), I felt the AssureLink was a freebie anyway. Speaking of which, it's a neat little freebie! I like it, and it was easy to set up. (Although it took a couple of tries for my phone -- or the AssureLink transceiver -- to find the garage door opener.) Also, you can go into the smartphone app's security settings (under "Account" > "Security") and disable the requirement to log in every time you launch the app. (2) Also true. However, this is true for all garage door openers made in 2011 and up. I called HomeLink (1-800-355-3515) and gave them my information, and I qualified for a free HomeLink Repeater kit. From what I've found online, you qualify if your car is a 2006-2008 model with factory-installed HomeLink system. What I like best about this garage door opener: (1) It is QUIET. As others have said, this unit operates very quietly. This is nice since our master bathroom is above the garage. (2) Remote RANGE. While it may move a tiny bit more slowly than my previous unit, it isn't a problem since the range on the remote(s) is pretty good (150 ft or more). (3) Motion SENSOR. The motion sensor on the door control is quite handy so I don't have to fumble for a light switch in the dark. It is fairly sensitive, but not so much so that it goes off when a bird flies by outside the garage window (which the door control faces). (4) EASE of installation. My wife thought I should hire a professional installer, but it turned out to be quite easy. The instructions are well-written and quite detailed for all aspects of assembly and installation. (5) ASSURELINK. As stated above, I view this feature as a freebie. This 3/4 hp opener costs about the same as the other 3/4 hp units without this feature, so I simply see it as a bonus feature for the first year of ownership. If I decide to continue using the feature after that, it will cost me $20 per year, which seems reasonable. At this time I doubt I'll renew, but we'll see. Also, the AssureLink website is working just fine for remote control of the opener. Also, the Craftsman smartphone app (Android for me) does allow you to uncheck the security option for requiring the password every time your start the app. In this way, you can avoid re-entering the password repeatedly. (6) Battery BACKUP. Peace of mind. The trade-off here is the cost of battery replacement, which the installation guide states should last 3-5 years. Note that the motor in the opener is a DC motor, so it runs purely off the battery. The AC is only hooked up to recharge the battery. (7) AUTOMATIC close feature. Although I haven't set it up yet, this kind of obviates the AssureLink feature. If it's set up to automatically close after a set amount of time, I don't have to worry about driving off with the door up. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

Disappointing product and warranty
Wish I had read more reviews and more into warranty information before purchasing this product. After installing this opener only 5 months ago it has stopped working and given an error code that the logic board has failed (I see this issue is common). Since I am outside the 3 month purchase window I am not eligible for warranty service and Craftsman is unwilling to send me the replacement part. The only way to resolve the issue is to pay a service tech $75 to diagnose, plus any additional labor costs (Even though the part is still covered under warranty). My other option is to purchase the part for $150. Since the unit cost was $235 obviously the better investment would be to find another brand with better warranty support. Very disappointing.

Great Opener Poor Customer Service

Great opener one issue was with the addendum to the directions for installing the belt drive. These addendum pages should have been stapled to the owners manual. Once I found this addendum adjusting the belt tension was straight forward. After installed everything worked great except the backup battery which would not take a charge even after 4 days. The store in Merrillville Indiana informed me that I would have to return the entire opener to resolve the bad battery. I was not happy with this. After contacting Sears customer service they ordered a new battery that shipped straight from the manufacturer which is what the customer service agent said the store could have done themselves.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

AssureLink support is horrible

As a door opener it works great but the assure link app has major flaws. I forgot my password and I am now locked out. I have spent about 4 hrs talking with people who don't actually know nothing about assure link. Please do not forget your password because the assure link is useless if you can not get access to it. I created another user name and password but the internet gateway is assigned to the locked account. Because they can't unlock it, I have to take the opener back and exchange for a new one.

LOVE it but the dog is nervous!

Love my Assurelink compatible belt-driven Garage Door Opener... would have like to purchase the 8' door version right out of the box rather than needing to buy and extension.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

VERY DISAPPOINTED!

Started having problems with the safety sensors the day after having it professionally installed. I called the Sears Authorized Installers and explained that the door doesn't always close. They said the lights on the sensors have to be solid, they were. They said if they come out it will be a $75 charge and recommended I try to adjust the sensors myself, which I did. The lights didn't change, but the door worked. Now I have to adjust the sensors every couple days, but still doesn't always solve the problem. A couple times I have manually closed the door and then run the opener and it worked fine, caught the door and closed it tight. Went with a Craftsman due to the reputation & a high-end model, what a disappointment. This will be the last Craftsman, other than tools, that I purchase.
