      Basic block plane

This is another version of the basic block plane that has been in use for decades. This plane lacks adjustments for the cutting blade and for the sole which would allow the user to tune how the plane performs in specific projects. Still, this plane is very reasonably priced and offers the wood crafter a well-built solid tool for smoothing the ends of cut boards ("blocking"). Contemprary coatings give us a finish that will last for decades (many older block planes have lost much of their finish).

      Not So Much
I found it difficult to get a correct alignment of the blade. When I tightened the wheel, the blade would shift just enough that my cut was only coming from the right side of the blade (about 1/3). I could not hold the blade in place sufficiently to keep this from happening. The depth of cut is also hard to control, but the unevenness of the cut is what frustrates me about this plane. Spend the extra money to have more fine adjustment. If you do get this, set aside plenty of time to hone it in. The bottom of mine was not smooth or flat.

      Fantastic Plane

This is a fantastic block plane for the price. You will need to take it apart and spend a little time cleaning the paint off of specific areas and sharpen the blade, but once you have spent a little time with it, this is a great little plane. The plane performs very well once sharpened. However do not expect it to perform right out of the package. Like all planes, the more time you spend with them, the better it will perform.

      Great buy

I borrowed an old block plan from my neighbour for one of my DIY projects. It was great! So I bought the exact same type from Sears. The quality is great; easy to adjust and use. I would recommend this to anyone.

Just a little of the top

When anyone is working with wood you will need one of these. To make those fine adjustments to edges and take off small needed edges. I not sure any wood worker who has not used one.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Pretty good, but a few concerns

I bought this Block Plane after having not touched one since High School shop class. For the price it is a pretty descent deal, although I did get it on sale! Which was just a plus for me. It feels solid and sturdy in your hand. I have no concerns with this holding up for a number of projects. This purchase was made for taking a bit off the edge of a door. The Plane performed great! I was finished in no time. And the adjustments on the tool are simple and clear. My only concerns were as follows, 1. This tool only has a year warranty. Which surprised me, I have purchased similar warrantied products in the past. But was let down to find out that this must not fall into the "hand tool, warranty for life" column. 2. As the store cashier was ringing up my purchase. It was then I read on the package "MADE IN MEXICO." Now if I wanted everything I bought to be "MADE IN U.S.A." It would take me 30 days and 14 different store searches to find a single product. But I buy American made when I can. Craftsman products have never really been a brand that I thought I had to look out for where it was made. Just a let down to this shopper, I will keep my eyes peeled on Craftsman brand products in relation to were they are made from now on. And thus make my choices accordingly. I would recommend this to someone who is looking for a Block Plane for a simple straight forward task. For someone who is not a regular in the wood shop. This will get the job done quick and clean. As far as product origin and warranty, you have been warned. The choice is up to you.
