Product Description

This Multi Chemistry Battery Charger Delivers Reliable Power

Whether you’re working with NiCd or have taken the step to lithium ion, Craftsman C3 19.2 volt 4 port multi chemistry charger delivers a full charge in an hour or less for each individual battery in succession. And to make it more useful, it features a programmed sleep mode that ensures fully charged batteries can be stored in the charger without potential over-load damage. Designed for serious maintenance, after five days in sleep mode, the charger wakes and checks the status of each battery on it, topping up any drain-off, so every battery you reach for is always good to go.

Work benches are made for working, not storage, so this multi chemistry battery charger features an integrated wall mounting system that get it, and four of your spare batteries up and out of the way. And since it features a quick release mechanism, when you need to head to the jobsite, it’s ready in seconds. A solid charger that’ll top up both 19.2 volt NiCd and lithium ion batteries, add this essential to your kit, and get the power you need to get the job done right.

  • Craftsman C3 19.2 volt 4 port multi chemistry charger includes: 4 battery charger and quick release wall mount
  • Works on both formulations of C3 19.2 volt batteries
  • Charger doubles as battery storage
  • Protects against over-charging with sleep mode

C3 19.2 v 4 Port Charger-It's more than just a block of plastic!

This new charger is currently not on display in any of the Sears stores.  Some of the stores have it, but it is displayed in a sealed box.  Sears sent me one to review a month ago. I pulled it out of the box, read the manual, hung it on the wall by the backdoor of my workshop and promptly forgot about it.

But over the last month I have grown to appreciate this new charger.  This battery charger just doesn't charge your batteries. It will MAINTAIN them. It will take care of the new lithium batteries and the standard Ni-Cads. It will accept all Craftsman EX and DieHard 19.2 volt battery packs. I no longer have to worry about over charging my NiCad 19.2's  I just plug them into this charger and leave them alone. I can easily tell if I have a battery fully charged.

I made a comment recently about how I wish you could hold and look at the new Craftsman C3 19.2 volt 4 port multi-chemistry charger on another discussion board.

I got the retort back: "How would you handle a charger to see if you like it? It's an immobile block into which you stick batteries. There's no ergonomics, balance, or performance you can test by being able to handle it. It just sits there, controlling the flow of electricity...an activity that you can't see happen without plugging it in, and can't quantify by holding it. Color me contrary, but holding one seems kind of pointless."

That's my point: Most battery chargers are just a block of plastic. Most battery chargers just sit there taking up space on your workbench.  This one looks cool.  It hangs on the wall in it's own  wall bracket and has a beautiful blue light that doesn't just blink...it fades on and off when it's sleeping. The charging and maintenance lights are big, bold and not round. It has a soft handle so you just unsnap it from the wall and carry it around. The four batteries CLIP into the unit and can't fall out.

I am going to go into more detail about the indicator lights.

The Blue  C3 Light:

After you plug the charger in the first light you see is the blue light in the middle of the unit with C3 emblazoned on it. This light is the "status indicator" and you can easily tell what is going on with the charger itself.

If the light is off the power is off to the charger. If the light shows a continuous blue light the power is on.

When the C3 light continuously fades on and off the charger is in sleep mode.  Once the batteries in the ports are fully charged this unique charger goes to sleep.  If nothing changes it will wakes itself up after about 5 days and check the batteries plugged in.  If there is nothing to do, it goes back to sleep.  You can wake the charger up anytime by pressing the light.

When the C3 light fades on and off and then blinks it is telling you there is a bad battery in one of the ports.  Press the button and the charger wakes up and shows you which battery is defective.

The other LED lights.

There are two lights by each battery port. A red and a green.  The lights tell you what is going on with the battery plugged into the port. Here is a summary of these lights and what they mean.

Red LED: ON Green LED: Off  - Battery in and ready to charge
Red LED: Flashing Green LED: Off - Battery is being tested
Red LED: Flashing Green LED: Flashing  - Battery is Defective
Red LED: ON Green LED: Flashing - Battery is charging
Red LED: Off Green LED: ON - Battery is fully charged
Red LED: Flashing Green LED: Flashing - Alternately flashing lights.  The port itself is having a problem.  Pull the battery and reinsert it.

This is much more than just a battery charger, it is an extension of your 19.2 volt tools. Take a look at it, read the manual, plug a battery into and watch it go through the cycles.

I like this one enough to go out and buy my own!

Consistently Unpredictable

I own at least one of every C3 tool (multiples of many). I bought 3 of these 4-port chargers several months ago. I've succumbed to the (unadvertised) fact that it cannot charge multiple batteries simultaneously. But I absolutely do not understand why many of the long-since-inserted batteries, when removed, have little or no charge. If those same batteries are then put into a single-port C-3 charger, they become fully charged.

These 4-port chargers (at least the three that I own) cannot be depended upon for any serious application. They make great wall-hung storage points but they are frustratingly unreliable as battery charges. I have reverted to my suite of single-battery C-3 chargers. All three of my 4-port C3 chargers are now unplugged and used only to store my batteries-in-waiting.

Very expensive and very disappointing.

Junk

Used this charger the way it was advertised, with Nicads and Lion batts. Say's it charges then maintains to keep full charge. It was very effective in ruining 3 brand new Nicads and the one Lion batt I have can no longer be charged above 50%. This product doesn't work the way it is advertised, I had to replace all of my batteries because I have too many of the C3 tools that would otherwise be rendered useless. Do yourselves a favor and stick to the single port chargers, I have three of them and they work properly. Do not forget Lion batteries need to be charged in a charger designed for them, Nicad chargers will ruin them. I had to purchase a Lion charger (conveniently for Sears) and I now use the multi port charger for STORAGE ONLY!!!!!!

Does not maintain batteries

This charger fast charges both NiCads and lithium ion batteries. Any reviewer who says it does not is wrong as I have both battery types and know for a fact it does. The only problem with this charger is if after letting it charge a battery (NiCad or lithium ion) and leaving the battery in the charger for a few days, I noticed the battery gets drained. I'm not sure if the charger is in some discharge/charge cycle for that battery when it charges. I would think the charger can measure the voltage of the battery and know it's fully charged so just top it off or leave it alone. Whatever the case may be, it leaves me with a discharged battery and that is definitely not what I expected with this so-called maintainer. Because of this reason I could not recommend this charger unless you only need it to charge multiple batteries but then use them immediately after (or turn off the charger after all batteries are charged).

this is the way to go for a charger

I love this charger it can detach from the wall and you can carry it to wherever you need. it charges the batteries one at a time in a round robin fashion then will monitor the batteries and charge them as them need it. the indicator lights let you know which battery it is working on. so much better then the original battery charger I got, light years ahead of it in fact. I would recommend this charger.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Nice Mounting option

Purchased this as my old chargers had stopped working. The ability to mount this on the wall and have 4 batteries charging at once is optimal for long jobs. The bracket that mounts to the wall allows for easy removal of the charger when you need to take it with you. Also this 4 battery charger was cheaper than buying 2 single battery chargers so not a bad value either.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

An Absolute Must-Have for Multiple Batteries

This multiple battery charger allows charging of up to 4 old and new style craftsman 19.2 volt batteries. If you have many 19.2 volt tools like I do, this is a must have item in your arsenal of tools. It has convenient lights that show you if the battery is charged, charging, or bad.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
