data
I decided to buy batteries by the amp hour - Ah. Divide the price by Amp hours to get an idea of the battery's utility, assuming more is better. For some users, more batteries is better. You decide. I put a lot of work into collecting this data. Sears does not make it easy! Nicad has 16 cells all in parallel = 0.9 Ah. Compact Lion has five 1.3Ah cells =1.3 Ah. The Hi-capacity is a 'double stack' of 1.5 Ah cells wired in series-parallel = 3.0 Ah. The compact XCP has five 1.5 Ah cells = 1.5 Ah. The high Cap XCP is a series-parallel double stack of ten 2.0 Ah cells = 4.0 Ah. On a raw power basis, the High cap XCP is the best value, and the compact XCP is the worst (using sale prices). Since LiOn is newer technology I recommend the extended 3 year warranty. NiCad has the highest cost per Ah but it is foolproof. "Warranty" requires you mail in the bad battery and if you pester them enough they will eventually send you a gift card for the purchase price plus the warranty price.

Hit and miss
These small Lithium 19.2 volts are a mixed bag. Just purchased my fourth one. Of the other three, two seemed to function and charge fine. The third worked but the power with the drill and impact driver just seemed less than the other two. The rpm's were also noticeably slower than other two when all three were fully charged. As for the new one, charged it up right out of the box, charger said it had a full charge after about 30 seconds. Used it in the impact driver but only in drill mode and lasted about 5 minutes. Put in charger and only blinking red light, won't charge. If you buy a new one, don't just throw it on the shelf until you need it. Test it right away. Will be returning the new one tomorrow to exchange for another, hoping for better results. I don't have any of the larger lithium 19.2 volts to compare and say if those are more reliable, but my experience with this one is they have reliability, maybe some quality control, issues. Gave two stars b/c two of my other three work great and the other so/so. Fourth one was a dud.

Power Galore

I had the standard battery for my drills and other 19.2 tools but these lithium last longer. Only thing I dont like is that when they are dead they are dead. No warning. Sometimes they quit when used constantly like they overheat?

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not up to Craftsman quality

Within the last year, I've purchased 3 of these batteries and 2 have failed shortly after first use. I waited too long to return the first one that failed). The one I just purchased on 5/5, is being returned to Sears today as it too has failed. When I buy a Craftsman product, I've grown accustomed to having very high quality, but this product has certainly let me down.

Battery

These batteries rock.. The old batteries run out of power quickly but not these. I had to cut down a small tree with my reciprocating saw and did it with power to spare. I would recommend this product.

Results questionable.

Bought 1st battery and charger set back in september '13. That battery is still working so far. The 2nd Li-ion I bought in december '13; had probably charged and used it 4-5 times of the course of the last 5 months. Never overcharged, treated fairly well - I don't trash my tools - especially expensive ones. Had charged #2 battery overnight and had put in bag with drill containing #1 battery. Once #1 battery's charge had been exausted; slapped in #2 battery - only to have NOTHING happen. Darn thing was dead, even checked both batteries in another tool to verify that it wasn't the drill's fault. Luckily I was able to finish my project using a corded drill. Nicads don't just quit working like this, my original Nicads lasted for 5-6 YEARS even after I ran the heck out of them putting the house back together after Katrina; Li-ion just dies after 5 months for no good reason - sure seems suspicious to me. Just don't forget to write the purchase date on the battery and keep your receipts in case you need to return it to sears for a replacement. I'm going to order Nicad cells and rebuild an older Nicad pack - they seem to last longer.

Made the change

I use Craftsmen drivers for all my work. Recently made the change to the lithium packs. Wish I would have done it sooner. Lighter , last longer and more powerful then Nickel Cad.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good package 2 for

The battery is always the costly add-on but if you wait for a sale you will get extra power at a reasonable price point. I finally have enough extras to do a ful days work with cords.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
