      Lithium-Ion Battery helps
Since this version is sold without a battery, I'm guessing the negative reviews are from users with Ni-Cad batteries. I own both batteries and can report that not only does the Li-Ion battery last much longer, it also provides a higher line speed from the start. If you are looking at this trimmer, I'd suggest the trimmer/blower combo, that comes with a Li-Ion battery, and multi-charger.

VERY DISAPPOINTED !!!! CRAFTSMAN SHOULD BE BETTER THAN THIS.
It is HORRIBLE. The battery last less than 8 minutes. Can you edge everything in 8 minutes ????? I DON'T THINK SO !!!!

Nice VALUE Trimmer. Home Use Only.

Works fine-- especially with XCP 19.2v battery. But this baby goes through the string! (More a function of the narrow gauge string, than the unit itself.) Also, I had to return the first one I bought-- string spool got all messed up after 15-mins. of use... could not for the life of me, and others tried, to get the string to auto-feed... even after re-winding spool numerous times. Exchanged it for another of the same model-- which works fine. NOT a super durable quality unit-- definitely for periodic small-medium duty in a residential area. Cutting swath is smallish, too-- another reason this is for light-medium home use.

      Excellent for lighter jobs

Bought this as the wife wanted something lighter and easier to use than the gas powered string trimmer that we have. I already have a full compliment of LiOn C3 batteries, so the tool only we perfect. Used a large on and was very impressed with both the power and the life. Went through everything I would hope it would, and some things (like smaller blackberries) that I didn't expect it to.. Didn't manage to drain the battery despite using it to clear around my raised garden and then the wife using it in the yard.

Motor burned out under light use

I have a few spare chargers and lithium ion batteries and I believe that this weed eater may be o.k if you plan on very very light use. Under 30 min, I used it for about 1 hr and the motor started smoking and now wont start.

      Decent trimmer for the money

My main reason for selecting this string trimmer over other models and manufactures was that it is a part of the C3 group of products. I saved a lot of money by using my existing battery and charger. As for performance, the trimmer does an alright job. I've used better trimmers but they were not cordless models. I like the convenience. I had no trouble doing all of my trimming on a single battery. The trimmer adjusts for comfort in both head angle and handle position. It does not weigh too much. Overall, it seems to be a good product.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Very nice and money saving weed wacker

I've had it for almost a year. Works great, does exactly what it was met to do. I don't have to worry about messing with an extension cord or buying gas for it. I can get 20-30 minutes of constant use before the battery dies. I have a small yard so I can trim what I need with one battery. For others with bigger yards, I'd suggest having two batteries for this. Luckily I have more C3 products so I have more than one battery. My only complaint with it is you have to hold in the safety button the whole time it's on. This can lead to a cramped finger once it is said and done, but I think it's a small price to pay for the convenience it has to offer.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      Great for general yard trimming

I have had this trimmer for 2 years now and use the Ni-Cad batteries. I have a large rancher house and yard and usually spend around 20-30 minutes trimming when I mow the lawn. If I trim every time I mow, one battery will do the job. If I have let things go a little then I may have to switch to the second battery. I have never run through both batteries. I love that there is no cord, but it definitely does not have the power of a gas trimmer. That said, it also doesn't have the noise or the fuel-oil mixing headaches of a gas trimmer. For light, general yard trimming it is more than sufficient. If you need to trim thick, long grass you will probably get frustrated because it will be slow going. The lithium battery would undoubtedly be an improvement, I just haven't had a reason to shell out the extra bucks for one. The only thing I don't like is the safety button that has to be pressed by your thumb before you can pull the trigger to turn on the trimmer.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
