I picked this drill up yesterday as my old basic one is starting to show its age. This drill is great. The critical review talking about it being a compact drill I do not understand - I guess that person is not aware of the advantages of brushless technology which include a more compact size with more power. I would also not consider this to be a compact drill. While it is not the huge drills of old, for a modern cordless it is of a typical size. Craftsman says this is their most powerful cordless drill and I believe them! This thing is a beast. Solidly built. The metal chuck has a nice quality feel and a slight press of the trigger just turns on the light without starting the drill, a nice touch if you are just needing some light to line things up before starting the drill up. When you start it up you can feel the power right away, a lot of torque and speed for a multitude of tasks, and it is noticeably quieter than the brushed drills. The kit also comes with a removable handle and a 2.0ah battery with charger. The battery and charger are interesting. The battery does not say it is an XCP, but it has the extra rubber and a push button fuel indicator like the XCP batteries. The same goes for the charger, it appears to be a unique model that has an active fan with a vent system that lines up to vents in the battery and it keeps the battery pack cooler during the charge cycle. This should increase the life of the battery, I wonder when the other craftsman batteries will start to include this system as well. The kit also comes with a generously sized bag that can hold the drill, handle, charger, and battery. There is enough room in the bag for an extra battery and if the charger is removed another tool of a moderate size (such as an impact driver or impact wrench). Overall this is by far the best drill/driver in the C3 system, and while expensive it is a good value when the battery, charger, and case are considered along with the next generation brushless technology.
I haven't done anything to put this drill to the test. I just bought it, but it seems pretty sweet. Definitely a much tighter, higher quality feel than the other C3 drills I have owned. The main reason I am writing this review, though, is to address the issue of this being a compact drill. I am not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. This thing is not light, and it is not small. It is not as large as your antiquated 1983 Nickel Cadmium home improvement drill, but it is definitely not compact. If anyone ever goes to **********, from time to time you will see their display with all the different compact drills out for testing. You can try the Makita, the Ridgid, Milwaukee etc. You can try all the hot compact drills. This is definitely bigger than any of those. Just check the specs online. The Makita compact is 7.5 inches long, the Bosch is 7 inches, the Dewalt is 8 inches. This things is 9 inches long which is exactly the same as Milwaukee's 725 inch/lb professional drill.
I do a lot of metal drilling and bought this drill to replace another cordless that stripped the gearbox when it caught a burr in some steel. This drill does a great job good torque and high speed capabilities. Battery life is good for a compact battery. I've noticed it doesn't work as well with the 1.5 AHr batteries I had from before but works great with the 3.0 Ahr battery that is included and even better with my high cap li-ion 4.0Ahr battery.
From the dog bone wrenches and max access sockets to the C3 power tool line, Sears has really been stepping up its game recently with its Craftsman products. This is the best compact drill you will ever own. I own it and love it, and its only criticism as far as I've seen is that it's small and not really heavy duty. This may be a "compact" drill, but when it cranks out 600 inch-pounds of torque, small size is a great virtue. Amazing little machine.

I purchased one of these as soon as I could find one at a local store. Really annoyed that I had to drive 45 miles out of town to the nearest "Sears Hometown" store rather than it being available in the full line store down the street, but whatever. Right off, fit and finish is superb. While the drill is probably technically "compact" it is definitely "full size" in durability and power. If anything, its smaller size means it's easier to use all day. The handle is chunky and well textured, but fits well in my smaller hands, as well as being comfortable for use in my father's larger hands. The drill is very well balanced, and the exposed aluminum where the handle connects adds a bit of substance to it for me, makes it feel like it's more solid. I believe everything they say about the power rating. Drilling large bore holes through 4x4 posts was much easier with this drill than my 35705-equivalent drill (rated at 340 in/lb) and I got way more holes drilled before the battery died! The brushless motor makes a different sound, sounds a bit more aggressive than a normal drill, and feels more responsive. The removable handle is pretty truck, unfortunately tightening it properly will leave a permanent mark in the aluminum housing....but whatever. It's a tool. All in all? It's cheaper than the DeWalt, almost twice as powerful as their brushless model, and I feel that it is definitely worth its price. I just wish the full line stores had them so Sears could sell enough of these to justify keeping them around.
