This is the one to get.
This miter saw is the best engineered miter saw i've seen. The dust collection is the best I've seen. It really gets most of the saw dust. If you connect a standard wet/dry vac (2 1/2 inch hose) to the port then it's getting probably better than 95 percent of the sawdust for me on all kinds of wood. The secret is to pull the saw all the way out, lower it and then make your cut by push the saw backwards on the board. All the dust goes up the huge chute. DO NOT come right down on the wood like a chop saw because if you do the sawdust will go all over the place like every other miter saw i've used. This thing really works well for dust collection. Second thing is that the laser is up front on the saw so it will not collect dust like all the other saw's I've seen with the laser in the back. There is no operator presence switch on this saw so it makes me think they were going to market it as a professional grade saw. The blade which comes on the saw is a very very good one. Very little to no tear out on any kind of wood I've cut. The rails system is clearly better design. For $229 they had to cut some corners and where they did is in the plastic. The miter adjuster is hard plastic (which is not uncommon). It would be my only real knock on the saw. It would have been nice to have a metal engagement for the miter detents. The motor is powerful and relatively quiet and it has an electric brake which stops the blade pretty fast. There is a place for everything on this saw including storage for the blade wrench and chord. Overall, this is an impressive saw for the money. I can only hope it stands the test of time. If it does then it's one of the better miter saws I've ever seen or used.

GREAT SAW BUT SOME DESIGN FLAWS
I purchase this saw thinking it was a space saving design as the salesman told me, however, because the slide comes out to the FRONT and not the back, it limits the height of the wood you can place against the fence, which is very unfortunate. The space saving design is not worth it if you can only cut a 6" tall piece of wood.

      Height restrictoin

I just wanted to point out something to contradict the 3-star review that seems to be based on the product's height restriction. This is a 10-inch miter saw. No 10-inch miter saw is capable of making 6-inch depth cuts. The blade's radius is only 5 inches. This product lists 3 1/2 inches as the cut depth capacity, so if that isn't enough for you, you need to buy a different saw to begin with. The clearance on this saw is not an issue if you are an informed and safe woodworker.

      Jackpot ... FINALLY

My miter saw buying experience has been nothing short of a pain in the rear end. After weeks of searching, finally settled on the Craftsman 10-inch slider, but took it back because it was just too big for my condo. Wound up with a refurb Ryobi, thinking it was made by the same factory and was $100 cheaper. Whoops, HUGE mistake. After getting jacked around by Sears' AWFUL website (seriously, it sucks. Fix it now) and facing a deadline to get a project done, I ran to the nearest store and grabbed this version, the compact model. So, so glad I did. Perfect size - a bit heavy, but sturdy - does everything a miter should, cleans up well and fits perfectly into the space I have cleared out in my storage area. Perfect. But best of all - and if you've ever read any review of any saw, you'll know what I'm talking about - Craftsman found a way to add a dust bag that ACTUALLY COLLECTS THE SAWDUST. It was unbelievable. That alone might be worth the extra $50. (Note: if you're like me and plan to hook your shopvac to it, you'll need the bigger hose or a adapter).

      great saw from a DIY'er

great saw and comes as advertised. minimal set-up out of the box. all angles measured correctly. handles a wide variety of sized boards and cuts. There are cheaper saws out there, and while i haven't compared this saw against those, this saw is high quality and does just about everything a basic DIY'er would need. It's fun to use and i couldn't be happier with it.

great price for a sliding miter saw

Lots of nice features built into this sliding miter saw. There are lots of adjustments to make sure everything is square. I have only made straight cuts, but it works well. The saw appears to be well constructed, and will certainly last an amateur like me.

Many extra features, perfect budget saw for the DIYer

Used for rough cuts and trim while finishing a basement. It's not a $500 saw, but works perfectly. Adjustments feel solid, easy to set up and cord storage is nice. Don't hesitate if you're looking for a budget sliding saw.

      Saw

I love the machine!  Has a good laser.  Saves space by moving forward instead of backwards. Glides easily with little or no effort.  Can fit into small spaces.  Portable and easy to move. Goes well with other tools.   Cuts very fast and allows angles.  Laser provides precision cuts.  Easy turn on and off switch.  Packed well inside box.  Very good product.  Female friendly.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
