This thing is excellent, right out of the box the blade was sharp and everything worked well. My only complaint is that you have to hold the handle a certain way while it's extended so that they don't collapse on you.
I haven't used this model much since I bought it, however, I do have the non extendable one which has been working great for me. I decided to buy this as an additional one to use in hart do reach areas.
These haven't had any trouble cutting through any branches I manage to fit between the jaws, and they seem well-made. The extendable handles are a great feature, although using them at the limit of their reach effectively reduces the width of cut you can make (because of how wide you have to get the handles to get the jaws fully open). Using them without accidentally unlocking the handles takes a bit of practice, but it's simple once you get the hang of it. My only real complaint so far is that the cushioned, foam grips tend to slide up and down the handles a bit. They're easy to push back into place, but doing so is rather a nuisance.
The Craftsman compound action bypass lopper with extendable handles is a welcome addition to my landscape maintenance tool box. The compound action helps cut the larger tree branches with minimal effort. The extendable handles helps me reach the furthermost tree branch. Sturdy and well made Craftsman quality.
These have a good feel, and while people have mentioned the tendency for the handle to loosen, you can adapt to it to keep them locked. With the handles fully extended the reach at max opening is very wide. At that point a different method of trimming should probably be used.
Got my mom one for Christmas last year and she loved it so much I had to have one myself. The extending handles make for easy cutting. Great quality!
