This is a nice product. It is nice to see something made out of metal still. I have had this for awhile and use it regularly. The cord always seems to retract easily. I should be getting another if I see it on sale again. The professional version has a thicker cord if you need it.
Item was a gift from my son. I used it frequently but only for short periods of time each time. Recently, I plugged in a small ceramic disk heater rated at 1500 watts. This reel is rated for more than that. However, after an hour or running ONLY the heater, I saw smoke coming from the reel. I turned off the heater and extended the cord the remaining 20 ft. The insulation was melted and bare wires were exposed. This should have a built in circuit breaker and should NOT have melted for the purpose that I was using it for.

I have this reel for a year or so. I use it for a few minutes every other week tops. The retractor was a problem from the start, not wanting to stay where needed. It was handy, hung from my garage ceiling so I overlooked that. Last friday I was using my craftsman air compressor plugged in to the cord reel for maybe half an hour. It was not even fully extended or under too much strain I thought . I plugged in a tiny heater as well and did not run the compressor since the air needed was built up. The cord reel began to smoke and I had to quickly unplug it.Because I have it over a year that is that. No replacement parts available either. Salesman at Whitehall Pa store did not have good knowlege of product. For as little as it is used, I am disapointed with it. It is poorly made dangerous Chinese junk. DO NOT BUY and save the $45. I have many sears/craftsman tools and appliances in my home but the latest ones seem to be failures. I hoped that this company does not follow suit with B+D when they sullied their good name.
