This mower was purchased mid season to replace a professional grade push mower. This unit was ABUSED and tortured like no mower should be. These were the results: Quick read PROS and CONS Good: Plenty of POWER OHV Briggs, bagger worked perfectly, front casters awesome, Started every time, never scalped grass. Perfect for flat lawns. Never clogged with grass. mulched well, side discharged well. Very quiet (for how much power it makes) Bad: Bag filled in 2 Minutes, had to be heavily modified in order to be reliable (speed control/ plastic knobs), Belt Drive, poor traction on hills. small gas tank. Deck wash is a joke. After one season of pro use, this mower is retired and now used for home use. would highly recommend the repair plan as it coves the trans, and belts. long story... 10 minutes after purchase this mower was tested in the parking lot. Started within 2 pulls (and continued to there after) The speed selector was set to 5 and the (red) propel handle was pulled. there was no movement. the speed selector would just pop down to 1. Duct tape was used to hold in place as my day needed to go on. the casters were shoddy. the handle wobbled. upon cutting for two straight hours: The drive system is belt driven. (as most under $1,000 are) this meaning the belt is ALWAYS slipping as per design to vary speed. This also causes the wheels not to turn on hills. Very poor for any up hill mowing. low profile wheels and wide bottom near the rear means you will bottom out a lot on hills and over rough terrain. wheels will spin in the air. Smaller gas tank than used to, fill every 45 minutes or so. The blade and deck work wonderfully. VERY even cut, never scalped a lawn. OHV mower has TONS of power. never bogged down. (rebuild) since I was going to abuse the mower so things were fixed. the speed selector had holes drilled so I could use a pin to keep it in the speed until I manually changed it. The plastic wing nuts on the front casters were replaced with metal, as were the hardware on the handles and some other places. Handles were tightened. All the casters and swivels were taken apart and packed with grease. A custom Brush guard was fabricated and bolted to the deck to protect the muffler, gas tank, and carburetor since these were all very exposed. TORTURE: The mower performed well 10 hours a week for 15 weeks. Then I submerged this mower in 50' long piles of leaves, trying to stall it out. it never missed a beat. completely covered and chopping away. wet grass never clogged the deck. the blade was sharpened and rotated but always cut well. I thought this mower would blow, or at least stall out. I was surprised. I would EASILY buy one for home use.

I had been researching mowers the entire winter due to my mower dying last season. So it was something I had to do. I had a craftsman mower that lasted me 14 years almost to the month and day. So craftsman was already on my good side. I knew that I wanted rotating front wheels and rear wheel powered wheels. Pushing a lawn mower the past 14 years has sucked. I have used this mower now 5 times and it is 20 x's quieter. It's easy to change the height of the deck for shorter or longer cut. Lets talk about Gas. I have a .78 acre lot and have filled the tank once but I have mowed 5 times. I don't really have any negatives about this mower other than storage, but that is due to my garage and all the **** in it.
I had a Cub Cadet mower that lasted 13 years. I loved the coaster wheels and was looking for another club cadet, but all the big box home improvement store stopped caring the push behind mower. I wanted a mower that moved and looked like the Club Cadet, but wanted to be able to easily get the parts if needed. The CX Series Mower was light and moved great around the trees and bushes. I loved the light weight movement. The bag was ok, but the grass seemed to blow out on the mower. All in all it is a good buy.
If you are a woman trying to buy a mower like me, stop reading reviews from men. I love this mower! And I had a lot of men tell me not to get it. Bag doesn't fill completely???? Well when it does it's harder to lift. I like this bag. I loved my Honda for years, and everyone will tell you to buy a Honda, but after using this Craftman for just a few times I realized how HEAVY the Honda was. This mower is like driving a sportscar after using a truck for so long. I walk 1.5 miles when I mow my 4 lawns surrounding my house. This mower is quick. I will recommend using your fingers over the top to hold the throttle down. If you are used to using your thumbs underneath like I was, they will get tired. I love the casters that manuever around trees and corners easily. I used this mower for a month while we decided whether to fix the transmission in our 14 year old Honda or stick with the Craftman. After just a few mows, I told my husband to sell the Honda. It was too heavy, and too loud. I can see why a guy might not like it because they can handle a Honda much easier, but it's a zippy little mower and once you get used to it, you'll like it too.
