Excellent - The Best of The ALL!

OK - Let's get one thing straight.  This hammer isn't a sledge hammer and it isn't a rubber mallet.  This tool is a Dead-Blow Hammer.  It is designed for driving two pieces of wood together.  It is most commonly used to drive pieces together for joinery.  The head of the hammer is made up of multiple shot which absorb energy as the head strikes another surface.  This provides minimum recoil.

This particular set of Dead-Blow Hammers is among the best I have ever used.  I really like the shape and style of the handle grip.  It is extremely comfortable  and easy to grip.  You will love it two, if you use it properly.

Good replacement hammer

Hi all. I had to purchase a replacement Dead Blow hammer. Have not been able to locate my old unit. I chose this model because of the Deal I got from Sears. Reward Points and all. Ending up costing me about 1/3 of the price. Haven't had a chance to use the hammer yet. But it feels like it will do the job. I do like the feel of the handle. As weird as it looks.

Great mallet

Great mallet. Ideal for working with wood when you need to keep the surface nice. What i use it for is tapping wood into place. This has become my "convincer" since it convinces my wood to slide into place. The handle is great as well, easy to get a grip on.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good So Far

It has held up so far. I have beat the heck out of it with only minimal damage. Not enough damage to exchange it yet. Good weight for my uses.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

BIG blow in a little mallet is GREAT.

I've used mainly conventional hammers and mallets that give pretty much according to how much their head "weighs". For a tool to not rebound on impact usually takes a pretty substantial tool that eventually will wear down the user with repeated use. And, if the tool is being used on a vertical surface, things get "heavy" much faster. Not so with this new type of moving insides mallet that gives a stronger impact than an equivalent solid mallet AND absorbs most of the rebound shock that results in the Blacksmith's rebounding that many people have seen or heard during an old West stable scene of a movie. Blacksmith's compensate and use this rebound, where most of us regular users of impact tools like metal hammers or non-metal mallets just have to learn to live with the bounce. This type of mallet changes all this and is available in 3 head weights of 1, 2 and 3 pounds in the Craftsman hand tool line. I must confess that so far the smallest 1 pound size has exceeded the performance I was even hoping for in a bounce-free or dead-blow mallet. I have NO DOUBT that the 2 and 3 pound head version mallets will be added to my workshop's arsenal of tools, as I clear out more hammer and mallet storage space. The attached photos represent a small readily available selection of the total number of impact tools I own and use. This is a very fun tool for even seasoned tool wielders to have in their workshops, available for doing work that more BIGGER mallets would normally attempt. And, the 1 pound size is small and light enough to just... fit in someone special's holiday stocking. I never get tired of the head's not bouncing, either.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Protects work surfaces

Strike a chisel with a ball peen hammer and the hammer "bounces" giving the chisel a second strike. Of course, your chisel has moved a little in response to the first strike and is not quite in position to hit the work surface where you want any more. Why is this a problem? You are removing material that you did not want to remove, the part you are creating or repairing now has a gouge in its surface.

This hammer eliminates that problem. The head is filled with lead shot that absorbs the force creating the bounce. You strike the chisel and the hammer stays at the point of strike. This is not the hammer you will use every day but it will be the one you choose whenever you are working on metals parts that cannot tolerate miscuts.

Great new addition to my toolbox

The Craftsman Dead Blow Hammer Is a great hammer or I should say, mallet to have added to my tool box. Just really getting into wood working stuff and thought I would give it a try on some things I was working on in the shop. No marking of the materials, I was working on, no splintering or messing up my pieces. Able to make solid blows when needed without worrying about damaging a project. It is was also great when needing to drive a bolt without damaging the threads. It's not a heavy hammer and it's not a sledge or ball peen hammer. It's a dead blow hammer, which means no rebound or marking, the item you are striking. The fiberglass handle is also a plus and the dead blow hammer has a comfortable handle and easy to grip and hang on to, without any slipping in your hand. This dead blow hammer also has the world famous Craftsman warranty, which totally adds to its value. I have had cheaper dead blow hammers in the shop, but they don't compare to the one that I just purchased, recently. It may not mean much, but I even like the color scheme to match the Craftsman line. There are some projects that are in my near future plans, that will require this dead blow hammer and I am confident in being able to use it without worry of marking my materials. I am slowly building up my wood side of my shop and adding tools that I see from other more experienced wood workers and tool guys and also go by what I read on other product reviews. Now I am adding my review from my own personal experiences with this tool and can honestly say I would recommend this dead blow hammer to anyone in the market for such a tool of this type. Happy tooling....

Craftsman Dead Blow Hammer

Like all craftsman products, this product (Dead Blow Hammer) comes with a lifetime warranty. Excellent grip and an all-around quality product. Price is reasonable, but the mail reason for buying this product is because it is made in the United States.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
