Remove Busted Bolts and Screws with the Craftsman Drill Extractor

When you have a broken bolt or stud that needs to be removed, get out your variable speed reversible drill and your drill extractor. Use it on screws or bolts that have busted off on the inside of the casting or on the outside. Place the self-centering point on the extractor in the center of the bolt or screw. Drill out the stud to a half in. Insert the tip of the extractor into the drilled hole and remove whatever has broken off.

The shortened length on the Craftsman drill extractor makes it easier to control the tip. Tips of 1/4" and 1/2" and tips of 6 mm and 12 mm are included in the 4-pc. set. The extractors are sliver colored and come inside of a plastic case for easy storage. A lifetime warranty covers these extractors if anything should happen to them.

      • Use a variable speed reversible drill and your drill extractor set to remove broken-off bolts, studs or screws
      • Works whether the bolt is broken off inside of the casting or on the outside
      • Self-centering point on the extractor goes straight to the center
      • Insert extractor tip into the drilled hole and remove broken item
      • Shortened length makes it easier to control the tip
      • Both SAE and metric
      • Includes a plastic case for storage

      Worked well for me
The extractor is somewhat unique in how it works, compared to the spiral and flute traditional types. Read and UNDERSTAND the instructions before using. It worked perfectly for me, but it was a "clean" problem I had - Two bolts on the 3 point hitch mount had sheared off (as designed) due to excess stress on my Case tractor. The bolts were not rusty, the heads just sheared off flush. The first bolt came out using the two steps required (drill then extract) with the extractor. The second bolt actually unscrewed while drilling the hole for the extractor (drill bit is counter clockwise rotation). I think this would work on slightly rusty bolts as well, but it would probably be important to really prep the rusty bolt first with lots of penetrating oil, some sharp taps on it to try to break the rust bond, etc. before using the extractor.

      Not for high torque extractions..
I was trying to free a bolt under my truck that was stripped and tried this kit, it barely moved the bolt and I wound up having to cut the head off the bolt and leaving it there. I thought maybe the I was using it wrong but tried it on a smaller less torqued bolt and it worked fine. This is a good kit for basic extractions, dont expect your drill and this kit to be able to free something torqued by an impact wrench.

      Drill Extractor

Used the 1/4 bit...first time it broke. Used the 5/16 bit, first time it broke. Followed directions each, used heat and PB Blaster with variable speed drill on low in reverse. Did not work well, after two attempts to return with lifetime warranty, item was replaced. Maybe they only work on soft bolts?

      Won't even drill into bolt...

I tried drilling out a grade 8 bolt and this extractor wouldn't even drill into the bolt. I struggled on one bolt for half an hour and I am returning the kit this afternoon. Maybe this kit works well for soft poor quality bolts, but it will not get out higher strength bolts.

      Poor drill extracter

Had a broken bolt in an intake manifold. After several attempts of removing it with an extractor I have up and went and purchased this one. This did not even drill into the bolt after about 30 minutes of drilling and getting no where fast I returned the item and got a refund.

      Good reverse drill bit

The reverse drill bit did a good job drilling through my rusted thermostat bolts. The extractor mechanism on the other hand was useless. I broke every single one of them on my first or second failed attempt.

      Drill extractor - short coming

My first experience wasn't 100% successful. I center drilled exhaust manifold stud to make sure I stayed on center with a carbide bit. Then I used this tool which includes its own pilot drill which is suppose to make the proper size hole for extractor. Drill worked great and had no problem drilling into stud, however the extractor didn't seem to want to bite into stud. Picked up another high quality spiral extractor using the hole this extractor created and stud came out easily. I will keep this tool to give it another try in the future. I liked the concept but the first attempt failed.

Having the right tools that work....only way to do a job

We had to take out a broken bolt from the pan of an auto transmission. It was small, a 6mm. The right size was included in this set. We put it in the drill, it bit immediately and in less than a minute we are finishing the job. Thanks for having the right tool for otherwise a cranky job.

      Pleased with Extractors

I have used these extractors at work for a while. They work well in most situations but not all. I would recommend them to anyone seeking to remove small to medium screws and bolts.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      Failed to deliver results.

Bought this set to remove an 8mm bolt that was sheared off flush to the engine cylinder head.  Followed the directions exactly and used my Dewalt 14.4v drill.  The drilling operation was successful but when I plunged the extractor into the broken stud per the instructions, the extractor snapped off at the chuck.

Had to step drill the bolt and used a #4 Easy Out accomplish the removal.

Tonight I checked the product warranty section and found that none of the Craftman nut and bolt extractors carry a warranty.  Hard to swallow $40 that did not deliver.

Save your money and buy a set of Easy Outs and sharp drill bits.
