In the Fall of 2011 I went shopping for a snowblower for my Husky LTH18538 lawn tractor. I went to my local Hometown Sears store to view a floor display and found that none were out on the floor. The manager advised he had one in stock and that was in a seal carton in the back. Manager did not want to open the carton to view it so I took the 45 mile ride to a REAL Sears store to view the blower on display there. I subsequently purchased it along with the wheel weights and chains. *****
Prior to installation I took the time to sort out all the parts. This was a great time saver during assembly since there are parts included for various models that I wouldn't be using. Quite impressed with that fact. (Make a point of saving the extras just in case you ever wish to re-sell the blower) I assembled and installed the blower over the course of two afternoons. Estimated time was between 8 and 10 hours. I found the instructions were well documented and the project was easy for anyone mechanically inclined with the proper tools. Mounting the unit to the tractor is two man job, but one person can get it done with a little muscle and some maneuvering of the unit. I did touch up the paint where it was worn from shipping and from scratches during my assembly. *****
I waited just about all winter to get a good snow fall in which to use the blower. In my area of Wisconsin, it was getting an unusually light season for snow. What snow came was in the 1 to 3 inch catagory and hardly worth blowing. Finally, on February 29th we got 7 to 9 inches of the heavy wet stuff. As a proud poppa I got on my tractor and engaged the blower. For the first 3 feet I blew snow 30 feet. Then I hit the hard stuff and that was it. The blower stopped and the belt flew off. Re-installed belt, same thing happened when I hit the drift. Re-installed belt and this time it flew off when I engaged the blower. I then parked the unit and inspected it for the problem. I found that 3 of the 4 studs that secure the Idler Bracket (part #24281) had sheered off. Either the bolt studs were stressed due to being over tightened at the factory or they were of poor quality. I contemplated calling Sears for warranty service, but figured they would just replace they with similiar questionable studs. I wound up drilling out the studs and replacing them myself with machine harden bolts. *****
Finally re-assembled, I got on my machine and went back to the task at hand. During the repair it had started raining and the snow was even more wet and dense. Due to the wet heavy snow I had to go at a slow speed, but the blower performed well. I was shooting snow and water 20 feet without the unit ever plugging up. Impressive. Overall, the blower reduced my snow removal time by 2/3's and it will be interesting to see how it performs with a normal snow fall. ******
Other than the incident with the sheered studs, the unit appears solid and of good construction. Time will tell how well the unit holds up with continued usage.
I purchased this on the 2104 MT winter. Assembly was time consuming but with good instruction until the part where the auger belt is tensioned. My first time I believe the belt tensioner was wrong, my fault and the belt came off. It was worn and reusable. then I tried again and the belt broke but this was a combination of a worn belt and tension pulley in the wrong place. I had ordered another belt and finally figured out the directions and the alignment of the pulley, "upside down in the instructions", now the thrower works very well and I clear a 1500 ft driveway and a 100ft circle with this and I leave 3/4 in clearance under the blower to account for the uneven gravel (skid adjust). It is very easy to get the auger tension pulley in the wrong place, you must match the diagram in the instructions and know how to visualize the diagram upside down. 5 deep snow removals and the belt is not wearing. In very deep and heavy snow the mower needs to move SLOWLY! and the belt is taking a beating BUT IT WILL HOLD!. I will report on the status at winters end. I throw heavy snow 30 ft and light stuff even farther. Im happy, check that you have the belt aligned properly with the proper twists and direction in the pulleys. Im sick of removing snow but my friends have no place to put theirs with a plow removal system. I DID BUY AND EXTRA AUGER BELT, JUST BEING PREPARED.
Had to remove dozer blade and brackets from my 27 HP Sears Professional tractor before installing the snow blower brackets and snow blower. Works very well so far. You will get a lot of parts in the box which you won't need. Instructions are not perfect but you must know which type tractor you have, manual or automatic is very different. Took me about 5 hours to remove and install. A deep socket rachet set is helpful. Now I need the tractor cab because the wind will make you look like a snowman.
I used this blower for 2 years and it worked great until this year. It seems that any snow level over 6 inches is too much for this to handle. Even in 1st gear it bogs down and the auger belt falls off. One time it jammed itself behind the large pulley and bent one of the idler pulleys, now I need to order a new sheer pin, belt and pulley. I would not recommend this blower, I think the dozer blade would do a much better job.

I had waited to purchase this for years, waiting to get the right tractor. I have my blower attached to a GT6000 and so far it has more than met my expectations. We have had over 50 inches of snowfall, which is a record. I even hit a pair of pliers, and had a giant electrical cord wrapped up in the augers. Didn't even break the sheer pin. The pliers did terrify me as they jammed into second stage auger and immediately stopped the engine. Miraculously, nothing happened. The installation might be a challenge for those not mechanically inclined. I've seen a lot of complaints about the installation. I definitely think any loss of stars due to difficult installation just isn't warranted. There are about 27 short video tutorials that guide you along every critical step! I found it amazingly helpful, and used my tablet in the garage. If you find it difficult then I suggest hiring someone capable. I actually enjoyed it. Overall I love this machine and look forward to using it for decades!

First year with this item. Instructions were very difficult, hard to install the unit on the tractor. The belts will not tension correctly and keep throwing. We've had 3 major snowstorms since buying this and I've had to shovel each one out by hand because this does not work. I never should have sold my walk behind snowblower for this.
Overall, the snow blower has good power. However, installation took me about 5 hours. There is also an interference with the lawn mower deck attachment on just one side that forces me to remove a hitch pin attachment for the snowblower to put the deck back on. Finally, the worst part of the design is the chute made of plastic. Complete garbage on a 1200 dollar item. It's flimsy and in cold temperatures I've had it pop right off the snow blower.
I've had it for three winters. No thrown belts or issues at all. I think it may be up to the tractor that you are putting it on. It takes about 3 - 4 hours the first time to install, but only about 1 hour each year for the reinstall. I have just cleared my driveway of drifts that were in the 4' range. If your tractor is up to the challenge.. this is the blower for you. You will need to add chains to your tires and weights. I did not add wheel weights, but I did had the weight that attaches to the back of the tractor. Overall it is fantastic.
While pricey, I would recommend this product to anyone who has to battle snow jobs. I've had the snow thrower for 7 years and have never have had any problems outside of spinning tires [that's with a 20 inch and a couple of 10 inch snowfalls]. Chains and wheel weights are a must! I have had problems with traction, but hopefully my wife will cook more bacon :). There is a fair amount of work for initial installation, but the time savings pays off over the years. Also, with this part comes installation parts for several models. I kept [and labeled] all the extra parts and it paid off as I upgraded tractors and needed to reassemble using the extra parts to a different body style. I give this product the highest rating possible due its ability to do the heavy duty work it is designed for successfully. I would say that making purchases at this company is somewhat confusing as they continue selling off stores [hardware, outlet, etc...], so make sure you know who you are dealing with. Hopefully "Fast Eddie" will spin off the Craftsman brand so they can continue to manufacture quality products supported by more reliable retailers.
have had this and it is working good. We have had more snow in Michigan then in past years. So far so good. Was missing some parts when I went to install it but called the number and they had them here in a couple of days. Just make sure you also buy the wheel weights and chains. I did not and had to wait for them to come in.
I have had this blower for a few months now and assembled it with some help, however the directions were nothing short of terrible. The pictures were vague at best and they mix in multiple tractor installs together so finding the correct one from page to page is harder than it should be. Having ACTUAL pictures of a correctly installed one on a correct tractor would be IMMENSELY easier. Having these pictures in the book would be difficult but being able to print this from the internet or having it printable from your sears store at purchase would be a pretty good idea. Forgetting about the issues I have had with install and the problems there after, it works great. I have now used it on multiple driveways after 7-8 inch snowfalls and it blows snow like a champ. Just wish the directions were better as I am still having problems that I am sure are from assembly due to poor directions.
