Very Good Quality Edger
I first bought a Troy Bilt trimmer and MTD edger at Lowes. Took them both back because the TB525 4-stroke didn't have enough power for the edger, but the edger was not designed well either (the rubber skirt drags on the wheel, thus the wheel didn't turn easily, an overall mess to operate). Went to Sears and found their 4-cycle trimmer to be identical to the unit I returned at Lowes, but the edger was visually much better designed and higher quality. In the end, I bought the Craftsman edger (and tiller) attachments, but went back to Lowes for a 2-cycle Troy Bilt trimmer. Since Troy Bilt = MTD = Craftsman, I might as well buy the cheaper and lighter unit (and I got bump feed standard on TroyBilt), but I highly recommend the attachments from Sears - they are differentiated.

Frustrated
Listen closely! I purchased the edger attachment last fall. My first blade change attempt was a nightmare. I still haven't gotten the screw off. I tried to place a flat head screw driver in the slot to keep the blade from spinning. The slot just broke. Nearly every review I've read had the same problem. I wasted an hour of yard time wrestling with this blade change issue. Don't buy it until you find out how to resolve this issue. Try Ryobi. Not to mention, the trimmer motor itself is heavy. Shop around.

I have a really nice lawn edge now!

I bought this unit a couple of days ago and edged for the first time with it last night. Just so you know, I attached it to a Snapper 28cc trimmer. Also my sidewalks were edged about 5 - 6 weeks ago with an electric edger so they weren't over grown. It did pretty good. There were several spots where the blade stopped turning and I had to go really slow but I got through it. After my first pass I did go back and do a second pass. Obviously that went really fast and cleaned up a few spots I had left. It took me about 1:30 to do all of my sidewalks with both passes. I live on a corner lot so we have a lot. It took me about 3 hours to do it with the electric trimmer but it was a little more dense at that time. This unit does have a sidewalk guard but I did hit the curb many times anyway especially on the second pass. Overall I am happy with it. I think if I do it once a month now that I have this it shouldn't take me long to get a really nice edge. It looks great right now!

edger

takes a lot of getting used to wobbles, and chokes up even when using it weekly, cannot understand why even after tightening the shaft tensioner it would not run without shaking

Edger attachment

item is easy to attach to my craftsman weed eater, I need to get to using it a little more to get the hang of handling it, but it works great once I got started, it cuts real good.

As long as it's partnered with a weed whacker that has the power to drive the accessories, it works as well as an edger for at least half the price. Easy to attach and detach from the weed whacker and balanced well enough that I do not use the strap. Absolutely love it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
