I am 87 years of age and needed a chain saw that was easy to start, light to handle, and provided excellent cutting. This Craftsman electric saw meets all of my needs.
Used this product right out of the box. No problems, plenty of power in a convenient package. Craftsman quality for a great price. The 4.0hp electric motor provides plenty of power for minor backyard jobs.
Exchanged first saw since automatic oiler did not work. Oiled bar manually for 45 minutes or so but oil level never changed. Second saw had same problem. Waited a couple days too long to return to store, they refused to exchange anything more than 60 days old. Gallon of oil was purchased at Sears. Now have to tear saw apart and try to figure out the oiling system.
I would have given this elect. chanisaw better grades had it not been that the chain for this unit is so small and difficult to find. Sears requires you to go to a parts & warehouse outlet to "special order" this chain. Even finding an Oregon 91PX chain online is not easy. So yeah, the $99 price is right for the unit, but the chain will eventually dull and will need to be re-sharpened...it is a very small gage. Had I known, I would have purchased a gas unit with heftier and easier-to-find chain. Sears did carry these chains when I bought this saw, and I bought an extra. But these are being phased out and Sears Hardware no longer stocks them. So you'd better buy yourself 3 or 4 extra chains (they are cheap), and be prepared to send them off for sharpening or, try to sharpen yourself with all kinds of files and file holders. Another option, saw this little unit for small jobs around the house, but rent a REAL chainsaw when you've got REAL work to do! Or better yet, get yourself a REAL chain saw from a REAL chanisaw manufacturer. And by the way, this chain saw is made in China.
has plenty of power ,ease of adjusting chain ,don't need tools to do this or to change the chain . so far this is the best electricchain saw I have owned.
I have always used gas powered chainsaws until purchasing 14" electric for cutting limbs and small bushes. It worked so well thought I would try 18" chainsaw for heavier use. Cut down Sycamore tree in yard that had died some time ago. (approx. 19-20" trunk) Cut as good or better than my gas chainsaw. Would recommend to anyone who is tired of trying to start gas powered chainsaw.

This chainsaw is much better than I expected. Having worn out my older 16 inch 3.5 hp Craftsman, I never expected the power and speed of this saw. You still cannot push it like a gas saw. By letting the chainsaw weight perform most of the cutting, this saw should well outlast my previous saw of 5 years. Be sure to have a good 14 gauge extension cord as a 16 gauge will not work. The operators manual will guide you.
