The Electric Dethatcher Opens Up a Professional Lawn Care Service For Owners Of Small Lawns
Designed for homeowners with small lawns, the Craftsman electric dethatcher is a lightweight, portable solution to ridding lawns of dense layers of accumulated grass clippings. The electric dethatcher features stainless steel tines that dig into and remove thatch quickly and efficiently. Dethatching a lawn helps soil breathe easier, helping soil better absorb water, fertilizer and nutrients for stronger, healthier root development. The easy-to-start dethatcher is environmentally friendly with no messy gas spills or fumes.
A lawn care process previously available to commercial landscapers, this electric dethatcher helps you give a smaller lawn the same care and attention to detail. The lightweight dethatcher weighs 30 pounds, is easy to use and is designed for comfort. A padded tubular handle improves ergonomics, and the folding handle makes it easy to store when you've finished the job. Backed by a 1-year general warranty.

First one I purchased motor burnt out, Sears replaced it. 2nd one two of the five tine holders broke off, they are just cheap plastic, the three others are loose on the main shaft and will likely follow the other two. The parts cost to replace the tine holders and 16 missing tines is $104 not including shipping. I gues I'll just chuck it out.

Purchased this a few years ago and have used once each spring. Cleaned grass from unit after each use and used heavy gauge extension cord. Over the years, have replaced power switch. A few minutes after turning on this spring, unit made squealing sound and lots of smoke came from motor. Motor was fried. Sears really needs to improve their quality. Replacement motor is about as much as a new unit and it will fail again anyway.

This product isn't worth the time or money. The instructions are very unclear how to assemble. The product isn't powerful enough to do any good on any detatching of a lawn. Totally worthless. Better to rent a gas power rake if you need to get the job done.

While it did do a really good job picking up the thatch it broke after less than 2 hours of use. I heard a thunk and found a tine lying on the ground. While looking for where it fell off I noticed the housing was broken and would need repair. This would be a good product if built sturdier but as is, give it a pass. I gave it 1 star becasue when it was working it worked great.

Bought it 5/3/2008, used 3 or 4 times now the motor is smoking. If I buy another dethatcher it will be a gas one and heavy duty. Usually buy craftsman products but might need to reconsider that.

Tine housing breaks easily even when you don't hit anything. Replacement pieces take a week or more to get. Bought several sets of tine housing since they WILL break. Top and bottom housing sold seperately. They should be sold as a set in the store. Unit is easy to use and not heavy. Ours makes a whistling noise like somethings gonna give. My husband ran the dethatcher and I went behind him with a lawnmower to pick up the thatch with the bag. A bag on the thatcher would be wonderful. Harder picking up the thatch than dethatching it. All in all I like it. Loaning it to all the neighbors.

Section of tine broke within 1 hour of operation. Otherwise it works fine..

My wife and I being in our mid-60's found manually raking our lawn to be a big problem. We tried hiring somebody to do the job but we were not satisfied. The Electric Dethatcher we bought from Sears made raking our lawn so easy that we finished the job at no time and we were completely satisfied with the result. To be able to use it 2 or 3 times will be less than paying someone to do the job.

Bought in 2010. First tried after almost 2 years idle, worked fine about 5 minutes, smoked and died. Repair estimate equaled purchase price. An amateur's opinion: motor too small for job. If it had a bigger motor, would be a great idea. If you buy it, buy protection.
