Batteries self-discharge in a month, useless unless specially charged
The drill seems to be a reasonably-funcitoning tool, and as a bonus the 18v battery will drive the similarly-shaped older plug-in (as opposed to slide-on) 19.2v craftsman tools. However, the batteries that come with it are chinese cheapies with high self-discharge. Charge it, set it on the shelf, and it will barely go around in a month. Basically, what you expect to happen to a battery in 3 years of use, these do out of the box. I was too busy to return them, so took the loss. The warranty doesn't seem to cover the battery. Craftsman don't mean what it used to. And I bought two of them since I wanted 2 batteries. Guess they snookered me. These are fairly useless unless you plug in the slow-as-mud wall-wart trickle charger the day before to get a charge on it.

Craftsman Evolv 18 Volt Cordless Drill

Great drill at a fantastic price. The built in light is an excellent feature. I have only used it a couple of times since I received it, but it worked just fine with plenty of power.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Drill

I am very pleased with the Craftsman 18 volt drill/driver. It is powerful and it is not heavy or cumbersome to work with. I bought an extra battery and the recharge is simply a wall to battery plug which eliminates the charger carriage that some batteries need to be set in. This saves the extra space required to store it in my workbench.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

I brought this one for doing small day today things in house and I must spay even though it is bit heavy it still does the work properly but I am more worried if I have to do work for a considerable amount of time I will have to buy something less bulky. I wld recommend this to anyone

18 volt cordless drill

Bought this drill for my son. He feels it suits his purposes wonderfully. As a first drill it has enough power to do the jobs he needs it for with a battery that lasts for quite a while. Nice unit for the price!

Decent drill for general household use

This 18v Craftsman is an upgrade from my previous 12v Crafsman. My old drill worked fine, but the batteries wouldn't work anymore, and they were $40 each to replace. I bought this drill on sale, and after a coupon code it was $20 (1/2 price of one new battery); It seems wasteful to buy a whole new drill, but why spend 2x as much for an old drill? Interestingly, I was able to sell my old multi-voltage 1hour charger on **** for about what I gave for the new drill!!! The drill itself went into the garbage, and the 2 batteries to the recycling center. I wish I had a use for the electric drill motor, but I'm not that handy. I've used it some, and it's got plenty of torque, and the RPMs are 1,300 (my old 12V was 1,000rpms). The balance is decent, although a tad heavy; the handgrip is about the same as the 12v. It has an LED light which is nice (my old one did too) for when you're in a cabinet or something. It does not have a vertical or horizontal level bubble, which my old one did, but I really didn't need it. The plasticy pieces do feel a bit cheaper than my 12V, but I'm sure it'll be fine. I don't know how long the battery will last on a charge, but I rarely need it for more than 15 minutes or so. From what I've read, if you go too long without charging the NiCD batteries, they'll die; so I'll make sure to stick this thing on the charger every month whether I've used it or not. If you're looking for an inexpensive drill for general household duty, this one should do the trick. Try to catch it on sale.

OK, but breaks quickly

My torque adjustment dial broke within a month, causing a piece of metal to hang out of the mechanism which snagged on just about everything including my clothes and my hands. Here's hoping that the warranty will cover it. The light is a great idea, poorly executed. Since it only turns on when the tip is rotating, it is frustrating to use in dark areas. Would have been nice to have a switch for it. There is also no storage spot for bits. Such a useful and simple feature is missed greatly when it is not present. The drill is awkward to use because of the heavy battery. This is true of pretty much every drill like this (big Ni-Cd battery), but still annoying for forty bucks. With all the flaws, the basic functionality is good. The 2 speed settings were useful when switching from drilling to driving and back again. The torque dial was great while it lasted. I was able to use the drill for a surprisingly long time before the battery's charge wore down.

Overall good price. Not the most powerful but definitely not the least. The battery lasts forever on this one. Comes with a good warranty as well! A good buy!
