I purchased this to help with cleaning up the sanding mess from Spackle while finishing my basement. This filter does stop the fine dust. You have to stop after some time to clean it out, as you can notice the performance of the vac getting worse. I would take the time to clean out the bucket of the vac and clean out the filter which I reused just fine.

I put this in my 16 gal vacum, replacing my standart filter. I used it in my basemnet to attach a sanding pad to it. It cut the dust to almost nothing, I did not have to cover everything while I used the sander. Cleaning the filter was a breeze, I took it outside and blow it out, and then reuse. I will wash the filter when my sanding is done.

The Craftsman wet/dry vac filters really hold a lot of debris. In fact, they hold so much debris, it is easy for them to get clogged. I was surprised at how much of the bigger chunks get stuck in the filter folds instead of falling into the vacuum tub itself. I've tried the blue and white filters in the vac when sucking up dust and wood chips from my miter and table saws. This debris was a mixture of chunks as well as fine particles. Finer dust gets trapped as well, although I didn't notice a difference between the blue and white filters (no way to measure it actually). Drywall dust or something that fine of a particulate really does build up in the filters quickly so clearing them often is advised for maximum performance from the vac. If you are careful, the filters can be cleaned and reused several times. Clear as much of the loose debris and dust from the filters over a trash can or using a trash bag to cover. Get out as much dust as possible and then rinse the filters with your garden hose. Let the filter dry completely and when you reinstall, it's almost like a new filter again. Not bad for a "paper" filter. :-) I'd recommend these filters for sure.

In a good way. I almost always keep this filter in even if I am vac'ing up marbles.
