Product Description

1/2 hp Chain Drive Garage Door Opener Opens by Remote, Inside and from Car

Enjoy a great end to every day by installing the Craftsman Garage Door Opener with Anti-Burglary Coding today. The 1/2 HP motor lifts your garage doors gently and doesn't close until it's sure you've arrived safely inside. You don't have to rush in because advanced sensors will reverse the closing doors if they detect your car's motion. Once you're in, the PosiLock system will make sure the garage doors are closed tight behind you.

You receive two remotes with this 1/2 hp Chain Drive Garage Door Opener. Keep one for yourself and give another to a family member or friend if you have a double garage. If it happens that you lose your remote, you can open from inside the house. Another option is to have a homelink visor installed so you can open it from inside your car. For your safety, it uses top anti-burglary technology that sends a new code every time you use it. This prevents thieves from interfering or activating it when you're not home.

1st Time Installer
Our old Craftsmen that was in our home for the 7 1/2 years that we have lived here (and well aged prior to our home purchase) died about a month ago. Being unemployed I was concerned with spending too much and settled for the 953930. I have never installed a garage door opener and was concerned with installing the unit alone. Much to my delight the unit was easy to install and took about 3 hours. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I caution anyone to NOT test the unit until it is completly installed. I "test " ran the unit prior to installing the door stop sensors and attaching the door. It was a mistake and created an additional hour of work to adjust the chain to the correct position. If your replacing your unit and have an existing rail, I suggest that you go ahead and repalce everything... after all you did pay for it and your rail could have some un noticed wear. It really is not much more work and the unit operates much quieter. I believe it was a great value for the money. If you are a Craftsman club member you can receive additional discounts when offerd saving an additional $10, just ask a Slaes Associate about joining, it is free.

Not as good as past models.
In 2006, replaced a 1980 model Craftsman opener that was already up when we bought the house. Not bad: 26 years of service. New opener worked great. Replaced the controller card because of an electrical surge ($96). April 2009 - less than 3 years service - the chain-drive gear snapped off the gear-train axle. On examination this shaft narrows to less than 1/4-inch (!) at the bearing. I could replace it but now (including the controller board) we're well into the original price. Not pleased. Note that the 4-year warranty is on the MOTOR. The motor still works fine. The rest of the opener - not as good as an equivalent Craftsman model from 26 years ago.

Outdated when I bought it.

Will only work on a 6 ft. door as it comes. Not a problem since the part # is in the installation manual for the 7 ft. extension. Well, that part isn't available anymore so I'm stuck woth an opener that won't work for what I need and parts to make it work aren't available. Buyer beware!

concerned no more

After 21 years the Sears garage door opener failed. Time to get a new one. Had a lot of advice where to go. I chose to go to my local Sears store. Good choice. Helpful and we came up with the one that was right for me. On Sale! Following day a professional installer was at my house and it was done. Works great. Happy homeowner

Great "must have" for any garage door!!! Get it at Sears!

Our garage door opener had been installed many years ago and finally went out, it was a memory board that is no longer made so we had to get a new one. I hate not having the door open when I come and go!! This new one is great and works everytime the button is pushed. The price at Sears was the best.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

replacement good fit

The gears stripped in our very old garage door opener. We bought this as a replacement and we didn't have to change everything. We really like the motion sensor light. And the remote works from a good distance.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Surte not the same quality as in the past

I have installed many and this was a Fathers Day gift to my Son in Law. Of course I was to install it and ran into two issues. First the chain was 1 link too short to get hooked up so I found my bike chain breaker and used one link from the old chain with another Master Link. Fixed.. Then could not get the down door adgustment and found the nylon adjuster broke and was in about an inch. Called local store & went over and they exchanged the motor unit and off I went .. Re-installed the unit and works great now,. Never had so much problems before with an Sears Opener. Thanks to local store's Hardware Dept Manager the exchange was painless. Only swaped out the two remotes & the Main Motor Assembly. Gee I am proud of myself for not yelling at them as it was not their fault there was manufacturing issues. Store folks was really nice and helpful.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
