Very quiet and 25% faster opening/closing
This unit replaced a Hp Sears unit that was 15 years old. I am impressed at how quiet this opener is. You may read that a belt drive or screw drive is quieter than chain drive. That is untrue. The chain on a door opener is basically the same as a bicycle chain. Your bicycle?s chain drive is almost silent when you are pedaling and it is moving much faster that the garage door chain! The noise you hear from openers is mostly the vibration from the motor ? not the chain. On this unit, the motor is exceptionally well isolated and quiet. Note that chain drive has been demonstrated to be the most reliable system for garage doors. A feature particular to this unit which has not been mentioned much is its speed. It opens and closes the door 25% faster than all of the other available Sears garage door openers. This alone sold me for the convenience factor. This door opener has a much improved rail system. My old Craftsman unit had an inverted ?T? steel rail cross section that the chain would bounce against as it operated. The new opener has a rectangular box cross section steel rail which is very rigid, and actually better looking. The traveling carriage completely surrounds the rail and needs no lubrication as it has self-lubricating wear strip inserts. The moving chain is managed well and it never touches the rail. The housing is significantly redesigned from previous older Sears door openers also. The light covers conveniently hinge down to open and the electrical connections are the convenient push-in type that you don?t need a screwdriver for.

Had higher hopes
Before I begin, Sears realize the submitter (me) owns a product and service scoring company. Removing my post will only exacerbate the situation. I installed this unit less than 24 months ago and it will no longer close. I've recorded 24 hours of actual repair time, making adjustments where I could. I even switched the guide bar (since the original is not solid, it's pieced together) and it worked 10 or so times. But no adjustment on the open/close dials work. I've put it at the maximum close setting and the traveler doesn't even move out of the open position. Really guys, this is too soon for a device failure. I have a laundry list of other things that need my attention and I've had to dedicated 2 weekends to working on the garage door opener which is something I just recently replaced. I'm going to exhaust the warranty avenue, but I'm letting you know that if we can't come to terms I'm going to war. And I'm going to tell everyone on planet earth just how bad the quality is. Frankly, everything else thus far has been good. It was quiet. It NEVER opened the door faster than the old genie I replaced, so I think the 3/4 ton is just a marketing gimmick. But for all the time it has worked and worked well. This recent failure is unacceptable and has completely negated and overshadowed any good feelings of value I had for this item.

Upgraded

Our 1/2 hp opener was getting tired after years of work so I decided to get a 3/4 hp opener and it really is a much better unit than the old one. This one opens the door faster and steadier, has 2 lights so the garage is really lit up better and was a breeze to program, if fact it accepts the old units remotes.

Indoor Control Panel Extremely Flimsy

Don't know how Craftsman could put their logo on such a flimsy device. The control panel has the durability of something you'd likely find in a box of CrackerJacks. Just closing the entry door to the garage sends enough vibration through the wall to activate the door! Our house has been left unprotected all night because the garage door opens when we shut the door leading into the house! Additionally, the electronic eyes that mount to the bottom of the door rails will turn on the overhead lights every time you pass by the sensors. I don't know about you, but when I'm working outside I walk in and out of the garage 20 times an hour so having the lights come on during a bright sunny day is a ridiculous design feature. The only way to disable this is to not install light bulbs in the motor. Avoid this product. Avoid other Craftsman openers that picture the same control panel as this model!

Very good product

I put the track together as per instructions, but it was shorter than the 15 year old Craftsman opener I was replacing (the old opener had an extension for a longer door). Had to take apart and include the extension to make fit. New opener works perfectly. Only flaw was that the instructions did not warn be about extensions.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

So far so good

Fairly easy to install, thou I just put it in the brackets that was left behind for the old garage door opener. Works a lot better than my old 1/2hp opener, smoother and a lot quieter. I'm happy with it, lets see how long it lasts.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman 3/4 HP Garage Door Opener

This was a replacement for my very old Craftsman--so old it didn't even have safety beams. This one has a 3/4 hp chain drive, safety beam, wall button, 2 remotes, and an entry key pad. I had it installed by a professional from Sears and it's been working great. It's fairly quiet too.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

garage opener

I like the motion detector feature. I walk through the garage from my shop and the light comes on and prevents me from stumbling around in the dark.

garage door opener

This opener was easy to assemble, just following the directions made it simple. It needed some adjustment to fit our door, but that was easy also.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
