Very quiet and 25% faster opening/closing
This unit replaced a Hp Sears unit that was 15 years old. I am impressed at how quiet this opener is. You may read that a belt drive or screw drive is quieter than chain drive. That is untrue. The chain on a door opener is basically the same as a bicycle chain. Your bicycle?s chain drive is almost silent when you are pedaling and it is moving much faster that the garage door chain! The noise you hear from openers is mostly the vibration from the motor ? not the chain. On this unit, the motor is exceptionally well isolated and quiet. Note that chain drive has been demonstrated to be the most reliable system for garage doors. A feature particular to this unit which has not been mentioned much is its speed. It opens and closes the door 25% faster than all of the other available Sears garage door openers. This alone sold me for the convenience factor. This door opener has a much improved rail system. My old Craftsman unit had an inverted ?T? steel rail cross section that the chain would bounce against as it operated. The new opener has a rectangular box cross section steel rail which is very rigid, and actually better looking. The traveling carriage completely surrounds the rail and needs no lubrication as it has self-lubricating wear strip inserts. The moving chain is managed well and it never touches the rail. The housing is significantly redesigned from previous older Sears door openers also. The light covers conveniently hinge down to open and the electrical connections are the convenient push-in type that you don?t need a screwdriver for.

Craftsman Opener, not worth it

We have had the unit for 5 years.  In year 4, both remotes stopped working and I tried reprograming them a couple times without success.  I tried taking the remotes to the store and the employee only could come up with changing the battery.  I had the batteries tested at *********** and they were fine. I called the Sears garage door specialist and they have a $99 service charge and said for $99 you can buy new remotes.  So either way I lose.  Luckily, the key pad still works.  Not worth pay 50% of the total costs just for new remotes.   Now without having openers for a year, in year 5 the optical eyes believe something is in the way of the door closing.  I have swept away all dirt and debris and they still don't work.  After 20 attempts it may finally close.  Now I have to manually close the door.  So what is the point of the device? The opener is now worthless.  It would be less hassel and just as cost effective to buy a new unit.  I am stuck fixing this garbage or buying a new unit that won't give me so much trouble.  You get what you pay for with this stuff.  Look elsewhere. These things should last more than 5 years.

GREAT, BUT...

This opener is strong, quiet and smooth, but..... 1) Only sears garage door opener bulbs work on this opener. I like to use fluorescent bulbs to save money, but they don't last at all (vibrations). 2) Opens slower than my old Genie I replaced. 3) Range of remote is shorter than my old Genie. I used to be two houses down and the door would open from that range. I'm in my driveway now before it senses the remote so I have to wait to enter garage. 4) Bought on sale for $170 (wait if you can and only buy on Sears.com as it's ALWAYS cheaper than in store).

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Two and a half years on, highly satisfied. No complaints.

Well, the subject linen says it all, but there is an interesting story that I would like to tell in order to support it. When we had a new house built, it came with a $500 garage door opener option. Given the excellent price I had paid for this item at Sears, and the service this opener had provide us for almost two years, I felt it worthwhile to pay $200 to have it removed from our old residence and installed in our new garage, rather than accepting some tiny contractor grade opener. I am glad I made that choice!

Good power but flimsy mounts

Overall the opener is excellent concerning power, but the mount brackets are weak causing the door to bounce during opening and stopping movement.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Product

This is the third one I've boughten in the last 40 years (for three different homes) and they are a very good product. Most of the appliances I have in my home are either Sears Craftsman or Kenmore- so I'm a 'dyed-in-the-wool' patron. What I didn't like about this door opener was that I couldn't install the opener WITHOUT the door sensors at the bottom of the door. For me, they were un-necessary- the door down sensor with the force control is all that is needed. (I've been a design engineer for Xerox for 40 years).

I would recommend this product to a friend.

very nice item and installer was very professional

this is a nice item and it has a lot of nice features. very quick install by a sears installer. a good value for the money. the 3/4 HP motor is a bit of an overkill, but it opens the door quickly and quietly.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Opener

We have an 8' garage door and this opener is powerful enough to open and close it without any issues. It comes with a keypad to mount on the outside of the garage door and extras like being able to lock it from inside the garage for extra security. Worth the money.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
