First of all, this is NOT a brush cutter. It even states in the manual, it will only cut brush up to 1/2 inch in diameter, which it barely accomplishes with the provided blade. The blade (you can hardly justify it as a blade) would be better off termed a smasher. It is 3 lobed and sharp as a marble. It will bash down a 1/2" sapling only with a great deal of shock and vibration. After about 2-3 hours of bashing through brush, the female connection *that connects the attatchments) in the power head shattered. No doubt from all the hard impacts from the "smasher" blade. I returned it with no problems and received a new replacement. This time I purchased 2 - 7.25" thin kerf carbide tipped circular saw blades from HD for $7. I used my dremel tool to take off some material from the blades to fit the 1" arbor on this machine, as the circular saw blades, after knocking out the insert are only 7/8". OH MY! This thing now cuts through 3-4" trees like butter! You may have to take a pass on each side, but WOW. The difference between this and the provided "smasher" blade is night and day. With the provided blade the machine was constantly stalling because of the heavy blade. To cut anything even close to 1/2" in diameter I would have to BASH, stall, restart, BASH, stall, restart. Even just getting the blade up to speed would often stall the motor. A real pain to deal with. With the circular saw blades, it almost never stalls, unless you jamb the blade, which happens mostly because the tree is leaning into the cut, and it is several magnitudes smoother. My hands would literally be vibrating after cutting with the provided blade, and now none of that. All in all the thing works fairly well after the blade modification, but I don't beleive it is a quality tool. I have put about 8 hours on the new machine and it is still going strong, but I have absolutely no doubt that if I were using the old blade it would be broken just like the last one.
