I had to pick this up because my old one became very brittle from a lack of use. Either way, this made short work of cleaning up the cylinder walls in my 351-4V engine out of my Mustang. The walls are nice and well finished off.
I would also like to thank whoever wrote the instruction page! I already knew what I was doing but it sure is nice to know even a novice could hone a cylinder without making any huge mistakes!
Sears Craftsman Stone type Engine Cylinder Hone 9-4633
I bought one of these tonight. Actually a second I have purchased.
The stones are rivetted on and are difficult to remove. On the back of the bubble pack pachage it says clearly "USE CRAFTSMAN REPLACEMENT STONES 9-46331" . Well, before I paid for it I asked the clerk if he had any of the stones in stock. He said I could get them on-line. Went home with my new hone expecting to be able to go on line and order some replacement stones for my identical other hone. Couldn't find it. lots of other brands on the sears site but not this one.
Called customer service. They told be the stones are available at "Sears Parts Direct" - another online site. When there on my computer. looked up the hone and replacement stones part number. Web site tells me these stones are not available anymore because Sears is not allowed to sell them by the Manufacture that makes the hone. For Gods Sakes Sears. Get it together.
Get a supplier who will service the products you are reatiling for them or get rid of them before all your customers go away.
My new Hone is coming back to your store for a refund. You bet

it's based on Lisle's hone so you can get the stones from them. It's one of the better glaze breaker hones on the market in it's price range

I have owned this product for years (about 30 now +/-) and can sympathize with the previous poster's issue re: the stone replacement. With a little research, he should've been able to see that that Lisle stones sets are a direct replacement for this Sears Craftsman product. Yes, it would be nice if Sears would reference that in their documentation, WEB support for parts, etc., but it's not a 'show stopper.' Use Lisle LIS23520 (Std, 220 grit). UPC: 0 83045 23520 0 LIS23530 (Hard, 240 grit). UPC: 0 83045 23530 0 or, LIS23540 (320 grit). UPC: 0 83045 23540 0, for your replacement stones. Do a WEB search, or call around for your better auto parts store that carry Lisle tools. If your hone originally had rivets, drill out and use 1" cotter pins to replace. Better yet, get the Flex-Hones. A little more money and it only fits one size cylinder, but a better finish.

Bought this tool to hone out my V-6 and the stones only go as far as 3 cylinders and a total run time of less than 5 minutes. Is this normal or is quality down the toilet these days. Now I gotta get 2 sets of stones to finish up.

The hone comes with the stones riveted to its arms. To replace the stones, just use a punch to drive out the rivets (or file or grind off the rivet heads). then just use the Sears replacement stones with the included cotter pins to attach the stones to the arms.

The old hone came with replaceable stones. New hone (same stock #) has non replaceable riveted stones. Tool is now a throw away.
