So many people have had the same problem and only a few of us have probably not thrown out the silicone wipe! Add the silicone to the rubber hose and it gets pretty slick! So much so that it doesn't stick to itself causing the binding so many have experienced! I wiped mine down when I first got it and do it once or twice a year when it feels like it needs it.
As another reviewer stated, I also relieve the pressure from the system when I am done with it just to protect the hose. This also makes it easier to retract and store the hose on the reel.
The overall quality seems fair to good though an exceptional model would be made of steel and probably cost twice as much! Still, for the home shop (this is hung on a rafter above my '71 Mustang) this does a great job of getting out of my way when it's time to clean up!

Had to return this hose reel because it would not retract the hose. There is not enough room in the housing to allow for the hose to wind up without taking extra time to guide it with your hand.

Purchased this hose reel on-line with that great deal of $39.99. Got it home installed it in the garage. No longer need to pull out that old hose and worrry about wrapping it up each time. Just pull this one out and when done pull and it goes back. Simple as that. If I do need a longer cord I just attach the old cord to it and boom back to the 100 foot worth. It is perfect for my little garage. I can get from one side to the other without having to add on. I give this product a perfect 5 wrenches.

Have owned this for about a year. It has NEVER properly retracted without manual feeding, and almost won't retract at all when cold. I extended it yesterday and the junction inside the reel started leaking, rendering the entire assembly useless. I'd rather have my money back than replace it every year under the lifetime warranty.

The reel is inexpensive and covers all corners of my garage. It retracts well, but somethimes it takes a couple of light tugs to get it to lock. It is heavy plastic and appears to be durable, time will tell for sure.

The reel works great. No snags or hang ups. My only problem with the unit is that it didnt come ready to use. When I got home I found that the ends of the hoses are threaded and have no quick disconnect connector nor nipple. Buy them while you are at the store. I had to go to three different local hardware stores to try and find the correct ones since we do not have a local sears store. I wasn't aware that there are so many variants of a 1/4" connector and nipple. I now have a working unit and have enjoyed using the reel on my wood working projects.

I was given this hose reel for Christmas several years ago. I finally threw it in the garbage today. First off, I was very unhappy with the quality of the hose that it comes with. It's the cheapest and stiffest hose out there. I've had to take it apart a couple of times because of leaks. Today the hose broke right were it attaches to the reel. In the process of trying to fix it the spring mechanism broke so I threw the whole thing in the garbage. The only good thing about it is now I know what I want for Christmas this year. A good hose real.
