I'm a certified FAA Airframe & Powerplant mechanic and also hold my Inspection Authorization. I bought this unit because of the Craftsman name, which in the past used to be very reliable. I needed this thermometer to accurately calibrate an iron thats used for shrinking fabric during the covering of a fabric-covered airplane. It is VERY important that the iron be at the precise temperature. Too hot or too cold can cause serious problems both in terms of longevity of the covering & also safety-of-flight. The first time I went to use it I tested it with a boiling pot of water and also ice. Both times it was off by almost 10%. The boiling water was 10 degrees too hot and the ice was 6 degrees too cold. I borrowed a similar unit from a friend that he bought at ************** and it was within the 2%. I tried returning it without the receipt and they turned me away immediately. I cannot put people's lives at risk by using such a poor product. Lesson learned.

I've owned this for a few years -- so it's out of warranty :-( I used it only on occasion. It originally worked reasonably well -- I won't quibble about it's flaws -- but recently, when I tried to use it on room-temperature items it consistently read over 100 degrees (F)! It burns me (no pun intended :-) to have spent so much on this one, thinking I was getting a quality item, when I could have bought a ?cheap? one which probably would have worked just as well.

I have had a #03450466 Infrared Thermometer for several years. I measures temp ok but the rubber grips and cushions are breaking down with age and getting real sticky! This makes this a bad purchase!!

Bought this last year, works great, has infared beam to help pin point what your trying to get temperature of.....I have checked it against other thermometers that I have and is pretty accurate. Also has digital readout in fahrenheit and celcius degrees. My friends think it's great too!

This thermometer is useless unless you don't care about being off for over 10F Too expensive for being from CHINA ugh Craftsman is sinking a new low for allowing stuff like this to come overseas... I would gladly spend a few bucks more if it were USA made.

Products value is over the top, for the cost. So, worth it. You will not be unhappy. So very easy to use and work.

The equipment worked great right out of the box. It was very accurate and easy to use. The only draw back is the laser only operates after the trigger is pushed, then the operator has to push a seperate button to turn on the laser. This is a little busy, but on the other hand it probable saves the battery (just guessing) Been using mine in a virety of areas, auto mechanics, home and auto air conditioning. Very happy with the product. Priced many other units before purchasing, This unit is comparable in price, but the Sears one year on the spot return policy sold me

I found mine is only about 2 - 3 degrees off. And also mine turns off just fine. Stays on for about 6 seconds after taking the reading then turns off. I don't know what everyone's talking about, (Maybe compertors), but overall this is a good product.

I read the reviews before I purchased this unit. I didn't care that the people who purchased a unit like mine found faults with it. I wanted to give it a chance. I needed the thermometer so I bought it. I read that it didn't shut off on it's own. Mine does shut off. I didn't care if it was a few degrees off, it is only about 4 to 5 degrees off, not bad. So far I think it's a good buy. If you need one don't hesitate. There is also a toll free number to call, with knowledgable people to answer your questions...
