Snow blade
I normally do not write reviews, this is my first actually, but I have found so many helpful reviews out there, I thought I would return the favor. I recently purchased this tractor blade [14" high # 07124441000], the associated 30 pound wheel weights and snow chains on Dec 28th, 2010 for my lawn tractor. I purchased this as we just moved into a house with a long, somewhat flat driveway, and thought this may be a good solution as we are in Spokane, WA and have been getting a lot of Snow! First things first, Sears did a great job with the order and getting the above items delivered to my local store much faster than initially quoted....I was impressed with this as well as the prompt email notifications....Way to go Sears! Second, when I went to the pick-up area of the store, I pulled right-in, scanned my receipt at their pick-up Kiosk, which starts a timer and waited no more than five minutes for my items to arrive and be loaded in my truck... Way to go Sears! So I get home and am excited to put this baby together and start plowing.... I open the box and ohhhh, there is a LOT of parts and bolts, and 4 hours later..... To that end, I am a fairly mechanical person and have almost every tool known to man and was just a bit surprised how long this took. In other words, if you are not mechanically inclinced and to avoid frustration and crawling around your garage floor for almost 4 hours, I would highly recommend you have someone install this for you. My arms/knuckles were literally scratched up from all the weird angles and small spaces to maneuver through the installation process. So the blade is on. The only issue I had was over tightening the handle to screw to the cable. I over tightened and the screw head broke off, causing me to drill through the screw plate and put in a replacement bolt. Tools needed: Metal drill bit and screw gun. After this mishap, I was finally done. The quality of the materials was heavy, which I equate to long lasting. The only parts I did not fell that way about were the extension arm to pivot and lower/raise the blade. Felt cheap and easily bendable..... 1 down two to go.... Next was the installation of the wheel weights. This is where the install stopped as you have these long roughly 10" bolts that go through your tire/wheel weight and you have to tighten them from the inside of the wheel, under the rear axle. This was a complete nightmare as most wrenches will not fit in that space and had to go out and buy a deep socket to tighten them down. Even with that deep socket, I still could not get them on tight....This was bad Sears! Finally were the chains, very ease and straight forward. Now for the test! Man vs. Snow on Lawn mower and Snow Wins...? Simply put, my big 23 HP Husqvarna , with 30 lb wheel weights and chains [All of the recommended items] was simply not enough weight/traction to avoid getting stuck in the snow. Very VERY disappointing after investing so much time in the install process. From another review, someone wrote they left their bagger on and put additional weights in the grass bagger for more traction, so I decided to gave that a try. I have the Sears 3 bagger so I put 25 pounds in each pouch. I noticed immediately much improved traction however I just could not get going fast enough to move a lot of snow, could not plow on an upward incline, and very time consuming with the number of passes needed to clear my driveway. So does it work...Yes. Does it work well...No. To conclude, I gave the review 3 stars for the great order and deliver, for the heavy duty parts, for the easy to follow directions. I did not give 5 stars because of the time it took to assemble, the difficulty mounting the wheel weights, and the less than desirable outcome. I will be returning all 3 products Sears. Well, I hope someone out there finds this helpful when weighing out whether to purchase.

Snow Blade

Seems to be well build. Takes a lot of time to assemble and there are a lot of parts. It would be nicer if it were partially assembled. But for the low price and some time on your part, if you are mechanically inclined. It is an economical way to use your lawn tractor to move snow on a big driveway.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Never a complaint

I have one of these on a 19hp Polan tractor, and it's great, living in ND, I know a bit about snow, and this beats a shovel any day of the week, ours is 6 yrs old now, and still works like new, that's what grease was invented for. Only kink is the tractor, it likes to spin on ice, even with chains.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Worth the price

I've had this item for several years now and it works well. I use the plow when the snow is wet and heavy and I have a snow blower that I use when the snow is high and fluffy. The plow is easy to install for people that have basic skills for reading directions and who have.a general understanding of how tools work. I have wheel weights with chains that are needed for traction, especially if you need to plow on an incline. The plow comes on and off easy and is easy to store on the back floor of my shed in the off season. I leave the bracket on the front year round. Slight adjustments and some wd-40 help with keeping the plow easy to move (up, down, left and right) all while sitting in the chair. I have a two car garage and a driveway that is about 2 cars wide and 6 cars long. This plow handles that size just fine.

Works well

The assembly was ok, you do have to use your brain and your hands. I have plowed 4 times with it and it works. I have worn our the "feet" that the plow rides on and I am disappointed, but perhaps it speaks to my rough asphalt as I have not seen anyone else complain of this issue. Wish I had bought this years ago.

Great investment , it's little but with a lot of bite

Was skeptical after reading a bunch of other reviews but I am very satisfied thus far.its recommended 8" of snow or less but to my surprise was able to plow at least 10" or more.Whether the fluffy snow or even the slushy type have had no problem removing whatsoever. Beats shoveling a 300 yard driveway, would also recommend chains & wheel weights for better traction but for the money beats snowblower.

EXCELLENT

Let me start by saying I am a Chef and not a mechanic. If you cannot put this together, you probably should not be driving the lawn tractor either. As with a recipe, you must read the directions first, then a second time...then throw them away and put the thing together! I had mine mounted and running in less than 2 hours and my tractor is from 1972! It was also missing 1 major part, the hand grip, but we made it work just fine. I have leveled my entire field and made quite a few trails with it already and it has only been 10 days!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
great buy!

OK, so about 7 years ago I bought this thing, I used it and loved it. I wrote a great review explaining that if you use this blade properly, you can move almost any snowfall. well here I am 7 years later... my review is gone, the pictures of the blade are different and I even think the model #'s changed. what has not changed however is this little workhorse's ability to tackle huge jobs. I live on long island and generally speaking we done get huge snowfalls. last year was different. we got 33 inches in one storm! this year we have already had 3 storms of a foot or so. I can honestly say that if you use this blade properly, you will move tons of snow. the key is obviously not to bite off more than it can handle. why did I bother to go thru the trouble of rewriting a review? because I just used it again last night (10 inches) and this lil blade is that good. full disclosure I have bent, broken, snapped and sheared pieces over the years. I have always just bought replacement parts, fixed it and put it back to work... and i mean WORK! I beat the snot out of it! tire chains and weights are a must. it will not work without them.
