      Snow blade
I normally do not write reviews, this is my first actually, but I have found so many helpful reviews out there, I thought I would return the favor. I recently purchased this tractor blade [14" high # 07124441000], the associated 30 pound wheel weights and snow chains on Dec 28th, 2010 for my lawn tractor. I purchased this as we just moved into a house with a long, somewhat flat driveway, and thought this may be a good solution as we are in Spokane, WA and have been getting a lot of Snow! First things first, Sears did a great job with the order and getting the above items delivered to my local store much faster than initially quoted....I was impressed with this as well as the prompt email notifications....Way to go Sears! Second, when I went to the pick-up area of the store, I pulled right-in, scanned my receipt at their pick-up Kiosk, which starts a timer and waited no more than five minutes for my items to arrive and be loaded in my truck... Way to go Sears! So I get home and am excited to put this baby together and start plowing.... I open the box and ohhhh, there is a LOT of parts and bolts, and 4 hours later..... To that end, I am a fairly mechanical person and have almost every tool known to man and was just a bit surprised how long this took. In other words, if you are not mechanically inclinced and to avoid frustration and crawling around your garage floor for almost 4 hours, I would highly recommend you have someone install this for you. My arms/knuckles were literally scratched up from all the weird angles and small spaces to maneuver through the installation process. So the blade is on. The only issue I had was over tightening the handle to screw to the cable. I over tightened and the screw head broke off, causing me to drill through the screw plate and put in a replacement bolt. Tools needed: Metal drill bit and screw gun. After this mishap, I was finally done. The quality of the materials was heavy, which I equate to long lasting. The only parts I did not fell that way about were the extension arm to pivot and lower/raise the blade. Felt cheap and easily bendable..... 1 down two to go.... Next was the installation of the wheel weights. This is where the install stopped as you have these long roughly 10" bolts that go through your tire/wheel weight and you have to tighten them from the inside of the wheel, under the rear axle. This was a complete nightmare as most wrenches will not fit in that space and had to go out and buy a deep socket to tighten them down. Even with that deep socket, I still could not get them on tight....This was bad Sears! Finally were the chains, very ease and straight forward. Now for the test! Man vs. Snow on Lawn mower and Snow Wins...? Simply put, my big 23 HP Husqvarna , with 30 lb wheel weights and chains [All of the recommended items] was simply not enough weight/traction to avoid getting stuck in the snow. Very VERY disappointing after investing so much time in the install process. From another review, someone wrote they left their bagger on and put additional weights in the grass bagger for more traction, so I decided to gave that a try. I have the Sears 3 bagger so I put 25 pounds in each pouch. I noticed immediately much improved traction however I just could not get going fast enough to move a lot of snow, could not plow on an upward incline, and very time consuming with the number of passes needed to clear my driveway. So does it work...Yes. Does it work well...No. To conclude, I gave the review 3 stars for the great order and deliver, for the heavy duty parts, for the easy to follow directions. I did not give 5 stars because of the time it took to assemble, the difficulty mounting the wheel weights, and the less than desirable outcome. I will be returning all 3 products Sears. Well, I hope someone out there finds this helpful when weighing out whether to purchase.

      Great Plow

Bought this plow and used it for most storms this winter. Anything over 12 inches it has trouble with, anything under and it's like a tank. Took 2 hour to assemble, but if you take your time and have some basic mechanical knowledge it goes very easy. I also us a Craftsman snow blower and I would recommend having both when the big storms hit.

      Impressed .

I tossed it around about getting a snow blower as the winters here in NJ seem to be getting worse.   I opted to go with the snow blade because I already had the craftsman ride on lawn tractor.   I'm glad I did.   We just had a storm with about 9 inches of snow and although I didn't let it get higher than 4 inches without going out there,  it plowed it great.  I have a 40ft. Double driveway and it was done so quickly and tirelessly.   It took about two hours to install though and I consider myself mechanically inclined.   Highly recommend.  I will invest in tire chains eventually as the wheels slipped from time time,  but only after the temperature dropped a lot.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      ride-on mowers

Without a heavy tractor and wheel chains, this does not push the heavy snow. It seems well made, but requires a much heavier / powerful rider. Even when the wheels didn't slip, the rider just stopped after about 4 feet of pushing. I was afraid the transmission would blow, so I returned the blade.

      Great Product

I have had this through 4 storms and it works great. I've used it to clear over a foot of snow at a time. I hardly even use my snow blower since I got this blade. Took about 2 hours to put together but well worth the time.

Does OK and has its limits

I've got this on a 24hp craftsman lawn tractor with just chains. So far I got two storms here and it did good. The first time was a heavy slush and cleared the stuff. The storm we got today I pushed about 6-7 inches. You have to not load up on what you are pushing. Definitely have to find out what you can get away with. The whole design on raising the blade and turning could be better. To drop it you have to work at it sometimes. Instead of lubricating the linkage as they suggest I goop it up with waterproof grease. Big difference. I also gooped up the pivot point too. If you break the cable as many have done, a dog's lead like the kind you let your dog running on works great, heavy cable and a lot cheaper. Same basic size and has a plastic sheath. Putting it together?? Well if you can read and distinguish what tool is which it isn't hard. Will it replace my 10hp snow blower in the deep stuff, no to point but so far it held it's own. I got it for $200 on sale and so far with my busted ACL, torn rotor cuffs and assorted creaks it was well worth it.

Its Ok I would have given it 2 1/2 if it was an option

I have only used it twice and I had to make adjustments both times to the pull cable that allows you to move it left or right. it is not very easy to lift or move for that matter. had I known how much of a pain it would be I would have gotten a different tractor.

Lawn Tractor Snow Blade 14" High

I recently purchased this item to use with my lawn tractor during the winter months. I removed the deck and installed the snaw blade. It seems sturdy and easy to use but it comes with many parts to put together which could be challenging for anyone not mechanically inclined. So far we have not had any sigfnificant snow this year in South Jersey, so I can not attest yet as it's effectiveness. I will post again once I get to use it. After all, the proof is in the pudding!

I would recommend this product to a friend.
