I can see a big advantage with these pliers when you are in a situation and the light is dimmer than usual. Focusing the light at the point of work is a great advantage.

I think these are a great idea I bought mine before fathers day and use them all the time. One of my friends that works for a bomb sqaud saw these and went to his local Sears and purchased a set for himself so that he could have both the long nose and diagonal pliers.

I recently purchased the two pack Craftsman Lighted pliers set, #10342. I just decided to take apart the diagonal pliers to see what made these work. This is what I found: 1. The sales associate tried to sell me a three year extended warranty for about 4 dollars. I assume this is for the switch assembly, which is not part of the lifetime warranty on the tool and is considered "consumable". 2. It takes a 2mm hex key to remove the three hex screws on the pliers. The screws are coated in blue loctite, which are not really tight on the pliers to begin with. I later found out if you overtighten the screws, the pliers bind and do not work well. 3. The bulb, batteries, and switch are consumable items and all one assembly. I wonder if Sears will sell replacement parts in store or will customers have to go through Parts Direct to purchase replacements. 4. When you do remove the screws and remove the switch assembly, the pliers come apart. They are not pressed together like a Western Forge pair of pliers, it's similar to removing the screw on a pair of Channellock Pliers and seperating them. 5. The Pliers use 3 LR41 (#392) Button Cell Batteries. The Battery Compartment has a rubber o-ring around the battery cover, which should make it water tight, but I do not know if the o-ring will resist other chemicals. The pliers themselves are heavy. They say they are 8 inch pliers, but size wise they look to be about a 9 inch plier, in order to fit all the parts inside it. The grips feel okay, not as nice as the old Craftsman PRO (Red/Black) pliers, but they do the job. If the hex screws are too tight, the pliers bind, but I think it would depend on the customer on how tight they would like these pliers. These pliers require replacement parts which at this time remains a mystery as to where customers may pick up this item. It's a decent plier for a DIY person, but maybe a professional will use these pliers somewhere.

I just find this features useless and a waste of money.

I am an electrician and work in many dark areas, crimping and cutting wire...These diagonal cutters were phenomenal because they cast the light right wear I had to cut and crimp wiring. Great Craftsman quality too...
