1 little thing
I purchased this for use as a professional auto mechanic and have used it several times over the week. The thing work good and does what you expect it to. Hits hard and fast and knocks the the heck out of whatever you point it at. The 1 little thing is the air inlet. If you look real close you will see that it is just a threaded metal sleeve. The metal sleeve spins in the handle so the air line won't tangle but since there is no nut, you can't hold it still to tighten the quick connect. It took me several tries and an impact wrench to get the quick connect tight enough to not leak air. After getting past that, it is a good, hard working tool.

good price, poor quality and support
The 2nd time I used Craftsman Medium Duty Impact Hammer 19897 the product would quit working, air was escaping. I would jiggle the chisel and it would work for a few minutes then stop. Could not find a manual online. Talked to 5 different Sears phone numbers and no one could answer a question on this operational problem, no one knew the product. The name Craftsman does not mean that much now.

You get what you pay for!

It's a good tool, no bells and whistles, but worked with it six days straight and worked great! Good Quality - Just make sure you add extra oil.

Awesome purchase

I have owned the original craftsman air impact gun that was already in well used condition when I acquired it 15 years ago. I used it while working on cars. Worked particularly well when installing "A" arm suspension bushings and cutting rivets on the radius arm bushing bracket on Ford trucks. I now work on semi-trailers. This past week I was replacing half of the bottom rail, side skins and uprights on a wrecked trailer, which are all attached with rivets (by the hundreds). My original craftsman finally cracked its case. Although it still works, the barrel works loose too easy. I ordered this one and finished the job. This one appears to be as well built as my first one. I expect it to last another 15-20 years. If you are considering buying this gun, you need to realize that this is a long barrel model that doesn't hit as fast, but does hit harder. If you need a little more control, a short barrel model may be more to your liking. We use short barrel ones for setting buck type rivets.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great value

Bought this for working on exhaust systems and for driving out steering stabilizers/mcferson struts etc. Saves my arm since I'm not as young as I used to be...grin

Descent impact hammer

As the item clearly states it is a medium duty hammer. If you need to use this everyday you may want to get a heavier duty one. For my needs it works perfectly.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

This one is worth every penny

I got this impact hammer cause I just wanted one. Lots of power. One time I hit the trigger and nothing happened. Then I oiled it up and worked beyond my expectations. Keep oil in it and it will not let you down. I use it all the time. Ive own it for over a year now. Ive wanting to buy one for home but the sears store close to me is always out of stock. But if it's there when I go there I will for sure pick it up.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Craftsman medium duty impact hammer the job intended.

In reading the reviews of the people who have had negative results with this impact hammer i.e. poor internals, air blow by, short life, there is there is one question I would have to ask. Did these people use air tool oil in their impact hammer or have an inline oiler that delivered oil to the tool? Unlike most every other pneumatic tool which has gears and ball bearings requiring regular oiling, a pneumatic hammer works on the principle of a burst of compressed air which drives a shaft. If you use oil in your pneumatic hammer and you get any dust or dirt inside the internals this will mix with the oil turning kind of gummy and will not allow the shaft to slide. In most cases if you take apart the hammer and clean the parts with a nonresidule cleaner you will have no problem with your impact hammer.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Craftsman Medium Duty Impact Hammer Is JUNK !!!!!

My Craftsman Medium Duty Impact Hammer worked well for awhile but DIED.  It ONLY left the air go thru but wouldn't hammer.  On 10/13/11 I took it back to my local Sears store ONLY to be told that it WASN'T covered by WARRENTY.  I have bought a lot of Craftman tools in my life but DON'T feel that I'LL be buying anymore.  I took a ratchet back earlier & got a REBUILT one for my broken one, when I bought it new in the 1st place!  The ratchet I forgot about but this Impact Hammer is the straw that broke the back.  I will NOT BUY ANYMORE Craftsman tools & will tell ALL my FRIENDS & PEOPLE that I know, that uses Craftsman tools, about what I went thru.  My tools are all guaranteed for life but CRAFTSMAN TOOLS MUST HAVE A SHORT LIFE.
