My Craftsman Medium Duty Impact Hammer worked well for awhile but DIED. It ONLY left the air go thru but wouldn't hammer. On 10/13/11 I took it back to my local Sears store ONLY to be told that it WASN'T covered by WARRENTY. I have bought a lot of Craftman tools in my life but DON'T feel that I'LL be buying anymore. I took a ratchet back earlier & got a REBUILT one for my broken one, when I bought it new in the 1st place! The ratchet I forgot about but this Impact Hammer is the straw that broke the back. I will NOT BUY ANYMORE Craftsman tools & will tell ALL my FRIENDS & PEOPLE that I know, that uses Craftsman tools, about what I went thru. My tools are all guaranteed for life but CRAFTSMAN TOOLS MUST HAVE A SHORT LIFE.

The 2nd time I used Craftsman Medium Duty Impact Hammer 19897 the product would quit working, air was escaping. I would jiggle the chisel and it would work for a few minutes then stop. Could not find a manual online. Talked to 5 different Sears phone numbers and no one could answer a question on this operational problem, no one knew the product. The name Craftsman does not mean that much now.

In reading the reviews of the people who have had negative results with this impact hammer i.e. poor internals, air blow by, short life, there is there is one question I would have to ask. Did these people use air tool oil in their impact hammer or have an inline oiler that delivered oil to the tool? Unlike most every other pneumatic tool which has gears and ball bearings requiring regular oiling, a pneumatic hammer works on the principle of a burst of compressed air which drives a shaft. If you use oil in your pneumatic hammer and you get any dust or dirt inside the internals this will mix with the oil turning kind of gummy and will not allow the shaft to slide. In most cases if you take apart the hammer and clean the parts with a nonresidule cleaner you will have no problem with your impact hammer.

For $40 bucks I didn't expect much, but it works great. not as much power as a HD Snap On but if mine breaks i'll be buying another for sure.

This air hammer is great for a $40 hammer. It has no problem popping ball joints off or cutting sheet metal. It has performed flawlessly everytime I use it. And for the price, if it breaks, I can by another and still be ahead. I don't see that happening though!

After purchasing thishooking it up, the internal valve would not cycle unless you shook the tool. I exchanged ti for another one, and the second unit worked better than the first, but the valves still bind up causing air to blow air through without actuating the hammer. I had high hope for this tool, since it fits nicely in the hand-not too big or too small, and it is better balanced than some of the more expensive composite or aluminum models. Unfortunatel, the composite valvebody has much left to be desired in its construction. If that is redone, this would be a fine tool for almost anyone to have.

The Craftsman Medium Duty Impact Hammer is a nice tool for the price and with the correct air supply and correct size air hose, it works great for what it was intended for. The best hose size to supply air to this tool is a 3/8" hose. I personally prefer PVC tubing for my air tools over the traditional rubber supply hose. It's not too heavy to handle as it is just barely over 3 pounds in weight. It has a standard 1/4" air fitting for the inlet. The recommended operating pressure is 90psi. The SCFM delivery is 3.2SCFM at 90psi. The impact hammer has the standard Craftsman warranty for pneumatic tools at 1 year from date of purchase. The impact hammer has .401 chisel shank in which you can use multiple chisel heads. I have sued this impact hammer to cut away fenders on small tractors to install larger tires. I have used this to cut sheet metal on my storage building. To help break a few small welds. To punch holes in thin metals. I have used it to cut drum lids to use for dividing my scrap metals. I have used this little inmpact hammer multiple times around the shop, but it has been mainly used on lighter wieght items on customizing pulling tractors with a buddy of mine. I like this little tool and it has done what I have needed out of it so far. It has not gotten a lot of use, but what time it has gotten has been put to good use.

I thought the air hammer worked terrific in the welding field. There is no knob to control how fast you wanted it to work, its all in how hard you press the trigger, making it more convienent and working faster.

This tool saved my butt big time.I had to remove aluminium from a pump shoe that had been mated with steel and lots of salt water.A 3 Lb. sledge hammer and punch wouldn't touch it.I got his tool in haste and it didn't let me down,it made the aluminium fly right out.Amazing tool for a super price,I would highly recommend..
