Mulch Kit
I needed blades for the 48" deck and looked at the mulch kit that was on sale for $40, the blades were $35 at other stores, so I purchased the mulch kit, it fits good and tight and works great. I read the reviews and don't agree with what they say, the blades on my 48" were not mulch blades, they were the standard blade to feed a grass catcher, the mulch blades have always had a lift in the middle and I haven't had any problem cutting fallen pine cones, this works as a mulch blade should.

Mulch Kit
1. They sell you another set of mulch blades. It comes with mulch blades. 2. the The cutting deck mulcher cover is held on by bungee cords and if you happen to run over a pine cone it dislodges the cover and cuts itslf up. Cheep plastic with rubber bands--NOT SEARS QUALITY 3. The cover should be well fitting, made of metal and bolted on.

Decent mulch kit

Everything installs easy enough. The only complaint I had were the blades. My were covered in a layer of rust as if they had been sitting in a moist environment. The box didn't look as if it had gotten wet and the kit itself didn't look like it had been used but the blades were rusty.

Mulches well

The kit was installed on the tractor when it arrived. Have only cut once with the grass being short and dry. The mulching was complete leaving no clumps or trails.

The mulch kit is a great product and worth the money

I got this mulch kit in 2003/03 as an experiment. I was using my other 47" bagger to get the leaves up on about 4 acres which took about 3 weekends. The salesman at Sears said give it a try and if you don't like it bring it back. I loved it. It turned three weekends into a weekend and all the leaves go back as nutrients now. I even mulch my nature trails throughout 10 acres. I am very happy with it. The blades are heavy duty and I sharpen them 2 to 3 times a year. The blank is sturdy plastic but the design isn't all that great. Eventually debris gets jammed at the seam and it starts to raise up then you have to clear it- this generally doesn't happen with grass but with heavier debris and leaves, but I don't pick up everything before I mow. I am so satisfied with this kit I am looking to buy another. I have my $10 coupon but now I think I'll wait for it to come down to $40- yeah!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Mucher Kit does a good Job

I purchased a sears 4000 lawn tractor online and had it delivered to my home. I purchased the mulch kit at the same time. When the tractor and mulch kit arived, I was very supprised and impressed that Sears had pre-installed the Mulch kit prior to delivering the Tractor. I did not expect that. That is the kind of service that I look for but rarely get these days. Good Job Sears. A+++ As far as the mulch kit goes..... It does a fairly good job. It doesn't quite mulch everything fine enough to always blow it back down in the yard, thus leaving some grass humps around. Expecially when mowing in a turn or if the grass is slightly high. I had to remow a few areas to eliminate the leftover grass laying on the top of the yard, and still had a little bit left. I think they could improve the design a bit, but it beats hauling bags of grass to the trash and sure is much better for your yard and the environment than bagging. I would recommend, just don't let you grass get to high before you cut it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Mulch Kit

Overall not much to say, you get blades and a plug for your discahrge. You will have to take the covers off the upper deck to get a wrench on the drive shaft top bolts to keep them from turning to remove the old blades and install the ones. They leave that part out of the instructions. Some of us old timers will look for holes drilled in the blades and a hole in the deck to insert a screw driver blade to hold the cut blade from turning. There are holes in the blades but no hole in the deck. As was said in a previous review, the plug is cheap and the attachment is cheap. If you get enough mulch under the deck it will just push its way past the plug. Not sure who makes the blade kit, but the blades are of good quality and pretty heavy steel. So I have to say quality for the part that counts is high, the rest of the kit and the instructions are junk.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
