Craftsman  Mulch Kit for 54 in. Deck

Purchased for the YT 4500 Craftsman tractor, and although not given much use yet, they are less noisy and better balanced than the bagging knives that came with the tractor. They mulch very well. Very happy with the product, but disappointed that it wasn't included with the purchase of the tractor.

GOT THIS FROM SEARS TODAY. WENT HOME AND PUT IT ON WITH NO PROBLEM. MOWED MY 2 1/2 ARCES. JUST WHAT I NEEDED.

I bought this kit I 2010 .Im still using it at the end of 2012. I have never sharpened it yet. It's going strong for three seasons now cutting 2 scares of lawn every week for the entire spring summer and falls for 3 yrs stright. I don't have to rakeor puck up any grass after I mulch. It just crushes the grass to find bits which is good as manure for the lawn .

I order this mulch so I could remove that extended discharge shoot. Well according to the instruction you need the discharge shoot to hold the mulch kit on.

The blades work fine and mulch quite well. Problem, the mulch plug does not attach like the instructions say. There is no hole to attach the front rubber on the mower. I had to drill a hole for the hook to go into for attachment. Also, the rear rubber is supposed fit around the spacer on the 1/4 inch bolt. That does not work properly, there is no clearence for the hook to go around the spacer.I am a retired Ironworker so I made everything fit the correct way.

I purchased this kit to eliminate the need for raking and bagging. Installation was straight forward, but the blades were rusted in the kit. (Cleaned with wire wheel). The shroud design was poor due to the mounting. Front wheel interferes with the spring clip and not very secure. Hit something in the lawn and it pops off. Rear mounting not much better. I just hate having to re-engineer things that should have been tested prior to marketing. On the plus side, it mulched fine.

I live on a 4 acre wooded lot. So I have bunches of leaves. I bought a yard sweeper last year but it was too much work. My brother lives on 4 acres beside me. He told me that he just mulches his leaves but he has a $6000 comercial mower. I was worried how well it would work on my 54" wide deck. I was pleasantly suprised. These blades actually ran much quieter and smoother. I can't explain why unless the pitch of the blade make it better balanced. My grass was a little high and lots of leaves. One time over it at a fast pass left almost no detectable debris. A few specks of leaves about 1/2" in diameter and no detectable grass clippings. In the summer I mow my grass in rows and mow back over the rows several times. Not anymore, I'm leaving this mulch kit on year round. I've only used it twice so far so I don't know how well the blades will hold up but if they get me thru the fall with all my leaves they'll be well worth the money. I am not a writer and don't usually write reviews but I've tried mulching kits before on other mowers, nothing compares to these and I wanted to share how well they worked for me. I just wish I hadn't bought the new grass blades beforehand, I'll probably never put them back on.
