Craftsman  Mulch Kit For Tractor 46'' Deck

This kit for a 46 inch tractor deck doesn't fit my one week old model 247.28915 tractor and it is the only one listed for a 46 inch Sears mower deck. Sears parts central told me there is no mulch kit available for this model mower AFTER I bought it, I guess it's too new. Why make different kits and not tell anyone?

The mulch kit was easy to install on my mower and does a fantastic job. I no longer have huge piles of grass around the yard.

mulch kit attaches to mower deck and in place of directional clippings chute. Does not seal completely to mower deck. Consequently, clippings build up on top of mower deck instead of dropping on the ground.

Mulch kit worked great.I should have gotten one years ago!!Easy install.

If you want to make your yard look good without having grass slung all over your yard ... you need to get this up-grade. It is a shame that it does not come with the purchase of a new 46in cut Garden Tractor. That is the only way it could be a better deal. Sometimes you just can't get a brake no matter how much money you spend with Sears. But the mulching kit really makes a difference when you cut your yard.

Need to make this apparent on the product specifications. If you want to buy a mulch kit or Blades for your 46" Craftsman LT 2000, you have to buy the MTD kit. It was a total pain to try to figure out exactly which kit to buy. I figured that if there was only 1 craftsman 46" mulch kit that it would pretty much be a no brainer. Not so.

When I first had my Craftsman Lawn Tractor delivered I was initially a bit worried about the vibration that occurred when I engaged the mower blades. It wasn't horrible just different than my old Craftsman. I used the tractor with the high lift blades for quite some time before I decided to get a Mulch Kit for the healthier grass. They were easy to install and the discharge cover fit like a glove! But, the biggest surprise was when I mowed for the first time after installing them. They significantly reduced the vibration to where the blades run smooth as butter when engaged and the do a fantastic job of finely mulching anything I can throw at them, even at fast speeds. I am very happy with this purchase and as an extra bonus my lawn has never looked better with the clippings decomposing and fertilizing the lawn. I didn't spray any fertilizer this year and I (and my neighbors) think the lawn looks the best it ever has. Plus no bagging anymore, unless I'm using my Chipper/Vac which is a blessing in itself. Do yourself a favor and go buy yourself a mulch kit.

All OEM parts on these decks were always steel. Anyone that grew up mowing their family lawn knows better than to use a plastic guard secured by mini bungee fasteners on power equipment. One fastener broke already this season! Glad my wife was not injured and was intelligent enough to disengage the PTO immediately and garage the unit. She broke out the old 42" Murray 100% steel deck with steel mulching kit to cut our lawn. Planned obsolescence at its best. Can see where lawsuits may result due to the poor engineering and safety concerns arising from this mulching kit. Pathetic Sears. May return tractor due to this alone if unable to come up with safe and viable alternative to this garbage.
