I tried the voltage from my home powersuply, which should be 120 voltage, but this thing gives about 180v, tried a 1.5v battery, it reads about 2.0v. What a waste of time, get to return it.
This meter works exactly as advertised in all ranges. It is conveniently sized and has a very tough and durable case. Even if you hook it up wrong it will still work. Battery life is great.
I am a nerd engineer that feels every room in the house needs a multimeter to diagnose electrical problems. This Craftsman multimeter is compact enough to fit in a drawer. The plastic case makes is resilient when dropped from atop a 5' ladder. A feature it lacks is an audible tone when checking continuity
cheap as chips (as we'd say at home). survived this past year with a few knocks. reasonably accurate - tested against a much better multimeter which i leave on my bench.
I purchased this multimeter a few weeks ago and have been very pleased thus far. For the money I think that it is quite solid. Thanks for the deal Sears !

I was a little hesitant to purchase after reading some of the reviews but went forward with it anyways, got home hoping all was well but wasn't after testing the meter. Everything functioned except Amp reading. It would be a good meter if it tested Amps, so basically wasting my gas to pick it up, then to return is four dollars gas, half of what the meters purchase price. So don't do it and heed to the negative reviews and save yourself the hassle and don't play roulette hoping you'll get a fully functional meter.
This is a great tool even for a novice electrician. I don't know anything about it, but good to have when the father in law comes over and he can do electrical work.
I mainly use this for measuring voltage levels and it does that job very well. However, you do have to manually set the range for the voltage like 0..20 or whatever since it's not an autoranging device and it does require a 9V battery which are more expensive than using those AA type batteries.
This is a very basic DMM and does have some issues with its design. The meter does not have an auto-shutoff so if accidentally left on it will drain the 9V battery. VAC only has two ranges (200V, 600V) which limits its accuracy when measuring smaller AC voltages. The DMM does feature five VDC ranges from 0.2V to 600V. Current measurements are made with two ranges 0.2A and 10A for both AC and DC. The 0.2A range measurements are made with the meter leads in the same position as voltage measurements so if you forget to switch measurement modes after taking a current measurement you can easily pop the internal fuse or damage the meter. For 10A current measurements it is required that the meter lead positions be swapped but there is no warning chime if you switch to a voltage measurement mode and forget to swap the leads so again you can accidentally pop the internal 10A fuse or damage the meter. With all these issues in mind if you are in need of a cheap meter for basic measurements it will do the job but you have to be very aware of how you use it to prevent accidental damage to the meter.
I bought this meter several years ago, and it has served me well. I cracked the LCD treating it rough, but it still works fine. When it went on sale for Christmas, i bought 3 more as gifts.
Easy to use large numerical display cable leads are appropriate length Making meter use very flexible display stand conveniently built into back of case
