I am more than a little bit disappointed with this purchase. I got it for my son to use for a school science project, and in the end he used a $2 thermometer from AutoZone with much better results. The infrared laser guide only works every third or fourth time you press the trigger and even then the temperature is not correct. It is not even consistently the same amount off like always 10 degrees warmer when used. It also is super fast to turn itself off so fast if you needed to write the temperature reading down you had better have the pen in hand or you miss it. Total waste of time and money is my opinion of this purchase.

As for far distances, you wouldn't use this. It reads the temperature of the air between the thermometer and your ******, so yes it picks up errant readings. But even the more expensive thermometers can do that. Recommendation? Get closer. For the price and what you would use this for, it's the cheapest anywhere and definitely gets the job done, even using it everyday.

I love the lazer sight and the backlit display. My only complaint is that the temperature range could go a little higher than 500. Other than that its a great product.

This tool works perfect! it is great for monitoring temps on just about any surface; I use it for evaluating oil temps on my Harley, and for checking surface temps prior to priming and painting.

What can I say? This thermometer is perfect for what I need. I really like the backlit screen and the ability to see the high and low temperatures of your last measurement.

I bought one of these several years ago and had to return it, last year, because the grips had degraded. They were sticky(!), like adhesive -- can you believe that! After some strong convincing -- it's only guaranteed for a year -- the manager replaced it for me. Now, it's been a little over a year and I went to use it and all the temperatures it reads -- just around the house -- are over a hundred degrees!! (And, it's late fall here in the northeast; temps in my house are in the 60s.) To add insult to injury, when I bought it it cost in the neighborhood of $80; now they're trying to peddle it for half that. In my opinion, it's junk and might be worth $10; at least at that price you wouldn't expect much. (And, btw, when I brought it back this time they refused to replace it for me.)

You get what you pay for. This thermometer is only accurate at about 1 or 2 feet away. Otherwise it is about 10 or more degrees off. I will be returning mine and purchasing a quality one.
