The Craftsman Nut Cracker Packs a Lot of Power in a Small Frame
The Craftsman Nut Splitter is there for you last resort when the nut just refuses all other forms of persuasion.
This nut splitter is a small and compact tool that splits nuts from 5/16 to 7/8 in. across flats. A hardened steel cutter, this is a hand tool only. Not to be used with power tools.

Although this device appears heavier duty than my 40 year old nut splitter, its design leaves something to be desired. My old one had a floating head in a socket, and it adjusted well to the flat side of a nut. This new one has a fixed head with a rounded tip, and because it rotates with the device's bolt rather than staying still like it should, it tends to slide off the nut. It may work better on large nuts that more totally fill the pocket, but If I can find a better design out there, I will be taking this one back to Sears. To work more effectively, one would have to drill an indentation in the nut for the rounded-point head to seat into, so it would stay there long enough for the cutter to start digging in on the opposite side and split the nut. The reversible cutter could be an advantage, but turning it upside down did not help when the rounded head kept rolling off the opposite flat.
With this tool I was able to get the old rusty shock off of my old truck. Before purchasing this tool I used a cutting wheel to remove one shock, then I purchased the nut cracker to try on the other side. The nut cracker was a better way to go.
Ordered this to remove some jammed old nuts. Product is extremely well built and easy to use. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a nut cracker to remove old rusted nuts.
I bought this to use in my shop. It was a good product. It worked really well for the bolt I was trying to crack. Sears was really good about getting it to me on time too.

This is a quality last resort kind of tool that is able to remove fasteners without damaging the bolt threads. It is always better if you can wrench the nut off but this will save your bacon if you can't. The cutter remains adequately sharp after several uses but is replaceable if needed. Every auto mechanic toolbox should have one of these!
this saved the day for me.. these are perfect for just about anything. Craftsman has been putting out great products for years, nice to know u can walk into the Sears and get exactly what you mea need to finnish the job..!
This is a nice quality tool. The reason for not giving it a 5 is that it will only work with a full height nut. On a short nut the pin rides up over the edge of the nut . This is not mentioned anywhere on the packaging.
Worked decently enough. Kind of big so you might need multiple sizes for different jobs. If it's a soft metal it doesn't crack them as easily. Kind of just digs in a lot.
