A great saw.
I needed a dependable, accurate saw that I could easily move around my workshop and occasionally take to other sites. After reviewing and seeing several saws, I bought this one because it had the most features for the money. The router table and sliding miter table are welcome extras too. I found the saw extremely easy to set up and adjust, accurate to use and very easy to move. Even with a reasonably sized shop, the ability to move it around to rip or cross cut long boards or plywood sheets is a plus.

Too inexpensive and versatile to do things great
The Craftsman 21829 is the newest version of the Ryobi BT3100 and BT3000. If I could use one word to describe this table saw, it would be clunky. The main good qualities of this table saw are that it is versatile and can be tweaked to fairly exact settings. It does wide ripping, large crosscutting, and uses a router in the accessory table. With a lot of effort (including tightening the clamps), the rip fence and miter table can be set so they align about perfectly parallel each time. The negative flipside of these attributes is that the saw does not really do any of these versatile things really well. First problem, in about 90% of these table saws produced, the blade does not sit parallel in the saw. The blade/arbor is set where it is placed out of the factory and cannot be adjusted. Mine has a blade that tilts about 1/16" between the front of the blade and back of the blade. This is annoying just to look at. To offset this, the rip fence and miter slide have to be tilted the same way. Second, adjusting the fence and slide perfectly is difficult and can be maddening. Once they are set even, they quite possibly need not be adjusted again. But it can take a lot of trial and error. To align the fence, I suggest tightening the back clamp first, then remove the blade guard, stick the saw out fully, loosen the two alan bolts, press the fence against the blade, tighten the front clamp half way, then retighten the alan bolts. To align the miter slide, align it to the rip fence by putting the rip fence on the left side of the blade, loosen the three alan bolts on the slide base, put a block between the slide base and the rip fence at the front and back until they are exactly parallel, then retighten the alan bolts. Align the miter table using the manual; this is a real pain here; you have to get the crosscut setting to 0 degrees again, which is very hard and requires test cuts, and will take a ton of time and effort to do exactly. Third problem is the three table parts do not sit level with one another. This cannot be fixed. Cross cutting will have the piece float over the main table, which can cause uneven cuts. Wide rip cuts will have the board slant from one table to the other, which is not something that really can be helped much either, but it is a slight inaccuracy. Next problem, the sliding miter table is awkward. It does not work very smoothly. Unfortunately the only option for miter cuts on this table is the sliding table. Another problem, the accessory table has no adjustments. It sits how it sits out of the factory and cannot be altered. Mine is slightly crooked and pivots when set in the table. Final problem I will mention is that this table does not have miter slots for the saw. This is probably the issue that bugs me most. You'll notice there is a miter slot in the accessory table; but because the blade or accessory table cannot be adjusted, you cannot use this slot with the saw. Miter slots are important for good use of table saws. They work on the same plane as the main table, and can be used for one of the greatest jigs, the sled. The sliding miter table is an inferior sled. This saw's biggest weakness (which is not a problem for most saws) is that it cannot use sleds. The BTS21 is an update to the BT3100 as well, but it is not as versatile and is less expensive. While the BTS21 still does not have miter slots, the blade can actually be adjusted, and it is much easier to align the sliding miter table, which actually rests really level with the main table. But I would still suggest instead of these tables to get a saw with miter slots. Also look in other portable saws for a rip fence that always aligns parallel, a level and even table top, durability, durable settings, a blade/arbor that can be adjusted, at least 12 amps, belt driving instead of direct driving, and a ripping capacity you like. Look for reviews and look at other saws. And just get a separate router table.

Dangerous Saw

This saw is very dangerous and poorly made. My husband cut his index finger and his thumb off using this on 3/5/2014. Buyer beware!

The holy grail of portable table saws

For some this is THE saw to have in your garage or workshop. Based off of the legendary Ry08i BT3100 model, the Craftsman Pro has the extended rip capacity, deadly accurate miter fence, and attached accessory table to use with most fixed based routers. Nearly all metal construction and solid stand make this a great throwback build quality with modern conveniences. A couple of upgrades to mention to make this saw the uber machine it has the potential to be: zero clearance insert, thin kerf Freud blade, shop vac with 2.5" hose for dust collection. Highly recommended if you can still find one out there.

A very nice saw

Because space is a premium, I needed a saw that could expand to the size of a contractors saw, but at the same time be small enough after folding up to be placed out of the way when not in use. This saw fit the bill very nicely. It comes with very good assembly and operational instructions. The saw itself comes already attached to it's stand. The assembly required there afterwards is pretty straight forward and easily understood. The two outer tabletops slide along the rails to their desired distance very smoothly. Crosscutting can be achieved either by the use of the sliding miter table or with the traditional miter gauge. The router table is a nice plus and with the additional purchase of the Ryobi universal router plate, almost any router can fit it. The blade that is furnished is a general purpose one Since both crosscutting ripping operations can be done, the blade of choice should be a good quality master combination. I Really don't need to use the sliding miter table, as I already have both radial and sliding miter saws. But for ripping, this saw has proven to be exactly what I needed. As far as this saw not being accurate enough to build furniture or cabinets as stated in a previous review is completely false. Once set, as long as none of the screws are turned, it can be folded up and then opened back up without having to reset anything. It also comes with one traditional miter slot and one additional slot can be made by the operator simply by repossitioning the miter table. All in all, this is a very nice tool which I am completely satisfied with. And for what it's worth, I'm a retired cabinet and furniture builder with 40 years experience.

A bit flimsy but a lifesaver in limited space

I've had this saw for about 5 years or so, and it is a necessity for me simply because shop space is extremely limited. The saw folds and unfolds easily and takes little space when folded. The manufacturer has been very clever (maybe a bit TOO clever) in providing numerous accessories and the saw has reasonable capacity for ripping and crosscutting. I done a number of tough projects with this saw in my tiny workshop, so it is possible to get the tool to work. However, I also agree with other users that alignment operations are very fiddly and the ultimate precision of this saw is mediocre at best. In addition, the rather flimsy construction allows the saw table and rails to deform quite easily under load, and to get good crosscuts I usually brace the rails by clamping the accessory table and rip fence on the same side as the sled. I also find that the use of aluminum for the table is quite a drawback since one cannot use magnetically attached accessories such as a magnetic featherboard, etc.. Finally, I have had significant durability problems with the saw, as the belts and main switch both failed prematurely. Replacing the belts is a particularly wonderful game for an afternoon when you do it the first time. Sears has NO instructions on how to do this, and most of us have figured out a process on our own (although I note that there is now a procedure posted on a blog somewhere).

Big tool .. Small on space!!

I already have a professional table saw from sears, but it takes up a lot of space in my garage. I bought this one to replace the other one and free up space. Now I just have to find the courage to sale the old one. I love them both.

Great Saw!

Easy to assemble and very intuitive. Love the wide rip lengths available and the portability. Quickly zipped through my OSB sheets to create perfect fitting walls for my detached garage. With a simple roller addition, I could handle the 4X8 sheets by myself. Can't wait to try the router table and do some angles.

portable precision

This is a wonderful saw in many ways. I really like the precision capable in all types of cutting scenarios. Throw in the portability / storability, and I would recommend weekend warriers consider this saw over any fixed-base type of saw. I've done a lot of cutting - trimming out a 2000 sq foot house - and look forward each time to the simple setup and operation. I also own a fixed Delta contractor table saw, a Sears radial arm saw, and a Sears sliding chop saw, but prefer this for almost all types of cutting scenarios.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
