This works great for shaving doors that stick, smoothing rough boards, and shaving a small amount of wood to make pieces fit. Nice wide blade eats large amounts of material in a single pass.

Although I can't speak for the longevity of this piece, I can say that I am extremely happy with the purchase. Being new to woodworking, I wanted something durable, that fit my budget, and from a company that stands behind their products. Enter Craftsman. I suppose you could consider me a Craftsman fanboy since my garage looks like a page out of their catalog. But, I am very particular when it comes to how / where I spend my hard earned money, and they have met or exceeded my expectations every time. Same goes for this jewel. The settings were spot on out of the box (0 was actually 0). It is quieter than most, has plenty of power, and blade changes are fairly simple and straightforward. I've created some beautiful table legs with this.

I have been using this tool for several weeks working with Red Oak. It has been an outstanding addition to my tool chest. I have been using it to plan 8" wide boards and it has be very consistant across all three passes.

I required a planer to correct imperfections on several cabinet door frames. This item saved me a lot of time as I had varying depths that had to be planed. This planer creates smooth cuts. You should definitely take practice runs on scrape wood to get accustomed to applying pressure to the aft end of the planer when approaching the edge of the work piece. This avoids serious gouges in the work piece. I was surprised at the level of ease required to operate the planer straight out the box. This planer is relatively quiter during planning when compared to other planers. This is a good investment. Buy it!

I bought this planer to cut down some new maple flooring to match my existing floors. The tool was easy to use however a few issues came up during the operation: It makes a tremendous amount of debris and noise! Please always wear earplugs and safety glasses. The discharge port did not always hold the position when I had the shop vac attached to it. It tended to twist it so it was not full open. The adapter for the shop vac was not easy to put on and off when switching discharge sides ( I planed about 300 sqft of flooring - so I needed to switch arms) The arrow indicators for discharge side are big and visible. With the vaccuum attached, there was very little debris that escaped the collection system. The discharge port tended to get plugged up even with the vaccuum attached. I had to jar the machine to clear. It was important to do two passes with the tool, flipping the work between them. I found it was slightly uneven accross the surface if I didn't do this. (probably a result of the user - not the tool) I had some issues with gouging when running the machine on and off the work piece. I solved this by using a jig to support the tool. I have used a benchtop machine but this portable planer did a better job even though it was more work for me. The initial preservation on the base of the machine made the surface drag - even though I cleaned it before use. I noticed a big difference after the first 50 boards and I re-cleaned the sole and put some bees wax on the surface. It was flawless after that. Even with clean maple, the blades tended to 'foul' requiring a little bit of cleaning through the process. I'm also surprised that I need to now replace the blades. I never had a problem with the tool slowing down - plenty of power even at full depth cutting. A very good tool - I hope to use it for many years to come.

Works like a charm. Easy to use. First time user of a Planer and it made me look like I knew what I was doing. Instructions very easy to follow. Adjustment very easy to do and close tolerances. Great tools.

Out of the box this item had a nicked blade (both sides). Upon returning the item due to dissatisfaction I was stuck with a $15 restocking fee. I will definitely rethink my next Craftsman purchase.

I've had this tool over a year and it has come in handymany times. I have been able to get a strait edge on long boards. I don't have a bench jointer and this has done a good job. It is very solid and powerful and the reversible chip exit is convienient.
