Great Compressor for the money.
I got this compressor on a special sale so I got it at a very good price. Not for too long I got it just about a week ago. It's a great compressor, a balance between mobility and air volume. if I have the room I will get the 60 gallon stationary one for about the same price, not like it's hard to pull a wire out of my main fuse for 220 V operation. but I don't have the room so I just settle with this. Anyway for those who might buy this, there are 3 things to keep in mind that's not mention in the manual. - Sears does not sell the Semi-Synthetic non-detergent oil this compressor called for. I know what other alternatives that you can use, will not mention them here because I don't want to confuse some noobs who reads this. Solution is you either buy them online (whatever brand it is), or if you have a Lowes Nearby, they sell the Semi-Synthetic Compressor oil for around 7-8 bux per 16oz, get 3 of them, why? read. - I'm not sure what happen but when I unbox my compressor, some oil was found on the motor, plastic case that covers the bell, and some was on the manual. I checked the oil level and sure enough, it's low. the oil plug/level reader is pretty retarded and hard to read. Add oil carefully, it's easy to overfill. After you add oil to it back to the Full mark, follow the instructions in the manual and turn it on to break in - After the break-in (30 mins of operating with the bottom petcock open) , DRAIN THE OIL COMPLETELY and refill it with the extra oil you have around back to spec. Oil goes in completely clear and clean, after the first 30 mins of break-in, its filled with metal particles that you can see easily. yuck. I wonder how many people out there just keep running it like this until 100 hrs or so later and found out their compressor is "not pumping fast/worn out". For me, after the drain and fill, I ran the compressor again for another 15 minutes then drain again, oil comes out much cleaner this time. Fill again, and the compressor has been rocking. oh by the way, don't overtighten the drain plug cuz it might break the rubber seal ... and Craftsman don't have a part # for it, you should be able to find whatever rubber seal that fits, or just get a copper washer to go with it. just something to keep in mind so u don't break it the first time you drain/fill it. Hope this helps.

WOW....IS THIS AMERICAN MADE?
I was excited about getting this compressor despite the reviews....about the leaks and lack of oil. I did have to buy oil to add so I could do the proper break-in. but after changing the oil....the think was leaking like crazy! It was on the line from the tank...not easily tightened. I had to take everything off (including the electrical to stop the leak). I tried to get the store to repair it all I got was bring it back and we will get you a new one. Whay would I do this just to get another leaking compressor? They said I should have bought the service agreement...they they would have come to me to make the repairs..... Why is this? Do they know they are selling junk? just expect it to leak and be prepared to add oil right out of the box

Great value

Starts right up every time. Noise level for this size of a compressor is great.

Junk out of the box

Did the breakin procedure and the thing failed. Wouldn't fire up the first time, loaded motor but no compressor. Had to take it back, total misery. Very disappointed, we'll see how customer service treats us.

2nd Try was a winner

The first compressor had a porosity in the pump cylinder wall so it had to be returned. Quality control should have found this. The second compressor was in perfect shape. Followed the set up and break-in directions and it fills quickly and is much quieter than the oilless version. I re-plumbed the condensate drain with an elbow, longer pipe and a ball valve so it could be accessed as the original is hard to reach and has very limited clearance for your fingers. After that the compressor works great and I'm happy with it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Machine -- But Read the Reviews First!

I ended up choosing this compressor because it just fit under my wall cabinets (30 gallon and up machines are too tall and I didn't want to give up floor space to a horizontal tank). And the price on sale was right! I read most of the reviews - the "good, the bad and the ugly" and thought I might be taking a bit of a chance in buying this model. Any way, I went ahead but took a few precautions: 1) I picked up the compressor at the local store (to reduce chance of damage by carrier some reviewers mentioned); 2) after unpacking it I checked the belt alignment as described in the manual; 3) I checked the oil level before running it; and 4) after running it for the recommended 30 minutes with the drain valve open I changed the oil. It takes about 18 oz. so I suggest picking up a couple of quarts for future changes. I found the right oil on the ********** web site. It is not in the store. Compressor has about 20 hours on it now and is running fine -- and a bit quieter than my two gallon dual-tank pancake style. Heckuva lot more air too!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Compressor For Price & Capabilities!!!

I bought this compressor on sale and got it for a great deal. Got it home, performed the break-in as required and changed the oil. Since then the compressor has ran everyday with zero issues. Its really quite compared to my last compressor, and refills itself in less than a minute. Its very conveinent that it isnt to bulky and can be plugged into both 110v and 220v. The only things that slightly bugged me, was that the oil required for the compressor wasn't available at SEARS, but it was at another store that rhyms with Bose for about 7 bucks a bottle (1.5 required). That and the drain valve can be a pain to access sometimes. Either way these two things wouldnt delay me in suggesting or buying this compressor again!!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

At long last a compressor that keeps up

I have owned a few single stage 20 gal electric compressors rated for air tools but they never could keep up. I had to wait and the noise was blasting!! This model at long last leaves me nothing to complain about. It keeps up with every air tool at ********** & ***** models only to return them. I opted for the 2 stage for low noise, longevity and the ability to keep my air supply going strong. This compressor is THE buy for a home unit, you will never be disappointed and the price, well the compressor is worth every penny and then some! If you are at all in the know about air compressors, air tools and the volume required to run those tools the right way stop hesitating and go buy this model.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
