Use this light on a weekly basis. Zero issues, and the ability to check RPM's off the gun eliminates the need for someone to sit in the car just to keep an eye on the tac. Great gun for the price, not like the junk you'll see at the chain parts stores. You get what you pay for.

Nice idea and was great for the few times I used it before the pickup stopped working. The unit will turn on, but the pick up does not read the spark signal to give you rpm or the flash to set timing. Craftsman is pretty much a joke anymore.

I bought this timing light to replace a a generic, but well constructed chrome metal timing light that I have owned for over 36 years. The old strobe simply was not bright enough. I suppose it has lost some of it's brightness over the years. I was dealing with very obscured, practically invisible timing marks on my 1999 Sea Ray 7.4L MPI (basically a GM 454 cubic inch truck engine). The flywheel was rusted, there were no notches or other physical mechanical marks, and I could barely make out a rusty white paint spot indicating 8° BTDC which was the correct spec for properly tuning the engine. In fact, I couldn't even see the faint white paint mark until I employed the bright strobe from this light. Once I found the mark, One of the great features of this light is a button to continuously and rapidly flash the strobe for use as a bright flashlight. Once I found the very faint mark on the flywheel, I was able to enhance it with some office type white out.
Conditions were not ideal; I had to perform the timing adjustment in full sun as the boat was in the water at the dock, and no shade was available.
I was totally amazed at how bright the strobe was on this new professional model! The digital tach is built right in, easily read, and available at the push of a button. There is a selector for four or eight cylinders and it could not be any easier to use. The induction system allows you to operate the light without the need for direct contact with the distributor secondary terminals, or the conductors in the ignition wires. You just place the induction clamp around the number one ignition wire, clamp the positive lead to the + side of the battery and ground the negative lead to a handy ground on the engine block. This timing light can be used on both positive ground and negative ground vehicles. There are special instructions for hooking it up with negative ground vehicles. The product is very well constructed and has all the signs of a top notch tool. I'm extremely happy with my purchase and recommend it without any reservations!

Wow! My previous timing gun was bought in 1980. I love the rpm display right on the gun. Also the ability to offset the light to mark TDC is fantastic. It really made setting the timing much faster. Hope it lasts as long as my previous one.

Overall the unit works as advertised. The instructions are clear and complete. The overall build quality seems adequate but it doesn't feel overly robust (I.e. I wouldn't drop it off the car fender for example.) The unit has some nice features as well especially the RPM feature. My car doesn't have a techometer so this feature was especially nice. Overall I would recommend this to a friend if they asked.

i purchased the light and i wasnt satisfied with the quality of the light and the lack of case for it. the light only flasheswhen connected to the plug wires if cliped on near the distributor. also there is no carrying case so it can easily be broken when in the toolbox.

One of the most useful features of this timing light is the RPM display as it allows you to accurately set or verify your idle speed before taking the timing reading. The advance features are a nice add on if you know your distributor's timing curve, or you can use it to map your distributor's timing curve if you don't. I used this light to set the timing on my hot rod. The initial timing was way off - set too close to zero degrees initial advance - which explained why I had trouble getting this vehicle to idle. Once properly set to 10 degrees, engine operation was much smoother and it started the instant the key was turned. I was going to buy the cheaper unit without the display but now that I have this, I wouldn't go back to just a straight light. If for no other reason, the RPM display makes this unit worth getting.

I Bought the 914066 timing light in May 2011 thinking it would last along time. I used it once in May to check and adjust timing on a boat motor it worked fine. Hooked it up today, (July)to check the timing on a friends motor and it wouldn't flash. We tested it on a truck just to make sure something wasn't wrong with his engine and still nothing. I took it back to sears and got a refund (within 90 days). I don't know if all timing lights are prone to early failure but for $100.00 I would expect them to work alot longer than 2 months.

I purchased this timing light expecting it to be better than the lower priced craftsman advanced timing light which I paid $70 for, which flashed a few times and then stopped working, but there is no difference between the two when it comes to quality of craftsmanship. I would not recommend buying either $70 or $100 timing lights, they're just not worth the time and hassle. Instead I borrowed my neighbors mid' '70s Matco timing light and that worked great.
