13" Planer Blades are not high quality for a Craftsman

We like the Sears Craftsman 13" Planer itself. But we completely agree with all previous customer reviews. It takes 3 blades, yet they only come in 2 packs. What's the deal?!? We could only make it through one bunkbed worth of kiln dried doug fir before needing to replace the blades. Everytime we've gone to Sears to get replacements, they either don't have any in stock or only have 1, maybe 2 packages available. Why are they not more readily available ? And this last job, we hit a knot and it took a chip right out of the blades. What Cheap luck ( yet costly) ? Does anyone at Sears read these reviews and address them to make improvements in the products they offer ? We haven't seen any changes in the last 2 years regarding the packaging or quality of the 13" planer replacement blades.

replacement blades for 13 inch planer come in two packs.

It takes three blades to change a set. Why do these blades come two to a pack? I can find no fault with the Sharpness of blades themselves, but...c'mon, guys. And they do not last terribly long. Also, for a heavy user, like myself, bulk packs would be really nice, especially if they came with a discount. for an occasional user, these blades are fine, but the planer is marketed as a heavy duty machine. I burned through nine sets of blades (at more than thirty dollars a set), that is eighteen blade changes in a single job, and close to the cost of buying a second machine.

Craftsman Replacement Planer Blades

The first board I put through my new 13" planer was a cedar 2X6 at minimal depth. A knot in the board chipped the blade. I really feel the blades should hold up to a cedar knot. The planer works fine but the blades are inferior and not worthy of the Craftsman name.

Hobby blades

I just finished planing 50 Ft. of rough cut oak and one set of blades could not do it. These blades are good for lite hobby work but can not take the work I was doing. The craftsman 13" planer did a pretty good job.I think craftsman should offer a better blade.
