This Craftsman Sign Pro Router Kit could be made better; not exactly the quality I expect from Craftsman. On the flip side, after working with it and practicing using it (the instructions were in Greek) on several scrap pieces, I finally was able to get some descent lettering. Since the initial “new tool” feeling wore off, I continued to work with it and have since been able to master it to the point my lettering is much better than my freehand. The bottom line is, a person must practice and practice some more with the set-up and the actual use before they will get satisfactory results. If someone is willing to put forth the effort at learning to use it properly, then I would recommend the Craftsman Sign Pro Router Kit.

This kit doesn't pretend to be professional and it isn't. However, there are still some basic flaws that shouldn't exist even for an amateur product... Parts used near a router bit should never be plastic, one slip and the router eats right through them (and this will happen, count on it). Then there is no way to replace the ruined letters or bushings without buying kits or a new whole set. The thing is flimsy and difficult to use but it can do the job.

I bought the sign making kit for a project. The kit came with both 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" horizontal letters and vertical numbers. It came with a universal router base and one router bit for each letter size. Pretty much everything that I needed minus the router itself. It was quick an easy to use and get started. Even my children have been able to run the system. Even though it is a good system, I have had my problems with it. FIrst off I did not realize that the bits were so small, I had to buy a 1/4" router to use as my other router was too big. The universal base did not fit my router directly, I had to buy hardware to make the base fit my new router. For longer lettering you have to piece two sets of lettering rails together. The first time I did this i realized one of my rails was twisted. So I just use one set and then realign and do more, I can get a maximum of 8 letters at a time. Overall the project is going well and it is a good price for the complete package compared to what I have seen online.

Not sure why it says new and improved? Templated are made of plastic, how is that improved. One slip or wrong move and the template is ruined, will only buy new kit when i find one that is made of metal or steel, if one exist. Am a craftsman devotee but do not see myself buying much more router accessories from Sears.

I was looking for a quick fix to make a sign at a reasonable price. After reading the previous 2 reviews I almost did not consider this product. However, I went to Sears hardware and bought the product with the intent to look it over and return it if not satisfied with the contents. I bought it and used it after looking at the quality of the contents. I was TOTALLY satisfied with the results. If you read the instructions and follow them, the letters do NOT move when doing the routing. I was totally satisfied with the results and my very FIRST sign. I am looking forward to creating many more signs with this product as a non-pro doing limited sign making. I don't understand how the previous 2 reviews came to their conclusions except that they didn't read the instructions or just don't like Craftsman products. If you are an amateur woodworker wanting to make non-professional signs, give it a try. I was TOTALLY satisfied with the product and the results of my first sign made.

This tool is not of the quality I expected. The template letters move during router processes and they are not well crafted.
