I purchased a new Craftsman lawn tractor this spring and noticed it didn't have any protection in the front. I ignored this fact for a few months until one day when I came very close to crunching the front of my nice new lawn tractor! The sears personalized web page was a huge help in that it had exactly what I needed already listed as a suggested item. The bumper feels very solid and is easy to attach. My only complaint is the directions included with the bumper are not very good - nearly worthless. Nevertheless, it wasn't difficult to see where it should attach and the entire operation took less than 20 minutes to complete. The design is simple and definitely adds to the visual appeal of my lawn tractor and also adds a certain amount of confidence that if I do have an unexpected collision some day, my lawn tractor will be just fine. I would definitely recommend purchasing one of these -- ideally at the time you purchase your lawn tractor as it seems an unnecessary risk to operate without it.

I bought this bumper yestarday and mounted it in about an hour. It fits my 2008 Yard Machines 638RL (MTD 762) perfectly. Paid $29.43 at Sears Hardware. Compare this price to the MTD OEM part at $89.93 list or $47.35 at Jack's Small Engines. Instruction manual is poorly organized. It contains multiple installation procedures which address various tractor types but directs you to installation steps based solely on which Craftsman tractor you have. The web site states that this bumper also fits Yard Man tractors. My assumption was that, since it would fit Yard Man, it would also fit Yard Machines (both manufactured by MTD). I was right but it took some time to figure out which procedure to use and, of course, the proper one for my tractor was the very last one in the manual. Also, it does not contain any information on where to install the FastAttach shoulder bolts so that is yet to be figured out.

I get this bumper in today and installed toay afternoon, a little tricky but no problem. sears should be install thie type of bumper on every tractor when they manufacture it for safety . and when there has been installed shock absorbe or spring or air type suspension on both front and back?.
