I thought this design would work well as both an internal and external snap ring pliers kit. It does work well for internal, but the convoluted method to convert it to external doesn't work well at all. When you push the button and swing the lever over to convert from external (pliers open outward) to internal (pliers open inward or in reverse) the tips don't align very well and the slop in the fit of the hinge/conversion assembly are so loose that instead of opening smoothly an evenly, the slop makes the pliers open out of alignment and the ring will invariably twist or pop off the tips. Not worth the money. Buy instead: SearsItem# 00947383000 | Model# 47383 or the other models but not this one.

I use the craftsman snap ring pliers quite frequently for ball joints and fuel pumps and couldn't be happier.

I was rebuilding my jeep's transfer case when I was in need of pliers to remove some snap rings. I bought these. I regretted it about 10 minutes into trying to remove the first ring. It did finally get the ring off after 40 minutes of trying and a friend with a screw driver helping. First of all they aren't strong enough and the tips are a hastle. One of them broke almost immediately. They don't open far enough and really just don't have the power to do the job. I went and bought the heavy duty lock ring pliers to finish my job. I honestly wouldn't recommend these to anyone. The only reason I kept them was for small jobs involving tiny rubber bands.

The Craftsman snap ring pliers come with interchangeable tips. It's like having a whole set of pliers. Before getting these pliers, I struggled with any kind of snap/ring fastener. I used picks, screwdrivers, and needle-nose pliers to remove them and it was just a hassle. I finally got these snap ring pliers and they are a great time saver.

I bought this last night and one of the interchangeable tips sheared off the first time it was used. Don't waste your time with this one.
