Product Description
Dig Deep and Throw Far With the Craftsman 22" 179CC Dual-Stage Snow Thrower
When it comes to winter, don’t mess around. Pull out the Craftsman 179cc dual stage snow thrower. Getting stuck with inadequate tools when heavy snow comes is worse than not having them at all. Smaller snow blowers choke easily on thick blankets of snow, cheap machines break and leave you running around trying to fix them instead of getting the job done. Take on winter with the right amount of power and durability with this Craftsman snow blower and you won’t even care how heavy the snow falls.
Built from tough steel and designed with a hardened auger, this snow thrower breaks-up ice and packed snow sending it to the powerful impeller which propels the snow through the chute and off your sidewalk or driveway. Driven by a muscle-bound 179cc four cycle engine, this snow blower rolls over tough, uneven terrain such as icy tire ruts while sending fountains of snow farther than you'd expect. And with a 180 degree rotatable chute, this snow blower allows you to quickly and easily compensate for changes in the wind direction, putting an end to sudden stops for adjustment.
Equipped with a mitten-grip starter handle, plow-style handles and the capability of clearing a wide 22 inch path with each pass, this Craftsman snow thrower is built to provide easy use and simple operation even when temperature drop to arctic levels.
Backed by a 2 year limited warranty, Craftsman ensures you won't be spending this winter trying to fix your snow blower, instead you’ll be cutting through piles of snow quickly, getting the driveway and sidewalks cleared quick. Keep this workhorse in your garage or shed and get the no-nonsense, job's done winter you've been wanting.
- 179cc* 4-Cycle OHV Craftsman engine provides more power, longer life, and improved fuel economy - No mixing of gas and oil required. Move more snow with a more powerful engine and save time out in the cold
- 22 in. clearing width and 21 in. intake height lets you clear more snow with each pass, ideal for medium to large paved and gravel driveways and sidewalks
- 12 in. serrated steel auger and 12 in. impeller breaks up hard-packed snow and discharges heavy wet snow
- Single propelled forward speed to reduce user fatigue
- Remote Crank Chute Control - 180 deg. chute rotation to discharge the snow where you want it, without leaving the operators position
- 13 in. x 4 in. Snow Hog tires provide superior traction in snowy conditions
- Mitten-grip starter handles - Easy to grasp and turnover recoil start while wearing gloves
- Plow style handles for comfort and control
- 2-year limited warranty backed by Sears Service

I was more than pleased with the whole purchase experience in Lake Geneva Wisconsin Sears Store. The salesperson could not have been more helpful The product was a great value and I was impressed with its performance a few days later when we had 11 inches of snow. More than enough power and its relatively compact size is a perfect fit to my needs. No reverse was not an issue since the 40 year old Craftsman thrower which finally died did not have reverse either. I have one big complaint though. The owners manual was abyssmal. All of the call outs on the exploded views were literally illegible! Useless is a better word! I have been a technical writer for 37 years specializing in machinery so I know a bad manual even when others don't. Believe me...this one is bad. And to make matters worse it was printed on very low quality flimsy newsprint like paper.
Great product...horrible manual.
After getting 23 years of great service out of a 24" Sears Snowblower, I downsized to this 22" model. Am I sorry. The chute clogs continuously if the snow has the slightest moisture content. It won't thrown the snow far enough if it's light snow. The whole second stage paddle and chute system needs to be redesigned. Also, the tires leak air.

Bought a similar model in January of 2011(Model #247887791) and have had nothing but problems. The oil drain is poorly designed to actually drain the oil. The gas lid says right on it to use ethanol gas. I had so many problems starting it, the starter rope actually broke off. The repair guy told me to ignore what is written on the lid and never use ethanol gas in a small engine. I had to replace the spark plug after 6 uses. When the tires go flat they come off the rim and cannot be refilled with air. Either have them replaced under warranty or take them to a tire shop. This has happened 3 times. Worst of all if the tires aren't flat and it actually starts up, if the snow is even a little bit wet it completely clogs up and just pushes the snow. I really expected better from the Craftsman brand.

Not only is this machine worthless, as it cannot handle the least little snow, but I have sworn off buying anything craftsman or kenmore. These products and service have gone steadily downhill in quality over the years and has become very disappointing to even say I own anything by them anymore.

We've had this similar snowblower for 4 years. Used it literally 10 times probably. This last storm at the end (thankfully) the wheels decided to stop turning. We thought it was a simple drive belt replacement. Nope! The transmission for $450! The technician says he sees it all the time in these smaller machines. Buy a different machine!

After a year the blower run like a champ. It even move the heavy salted snow. The only issue is that after a year I have to replace the metal guides.

I like it alot. It's very powerful for a small machine and doesn't have lot of complicated gadgets. Just a nice, no nonsense machine.

Good news - It goes through deep heavy snow and throws it far. Bad news - The carburetor clogged the second time I used it. They can't be cleaned, but have to be replaced. Repair man told me it happens all the time, but also says it is pretty much the same for snowblowers you buy anywhere. So I highly recommend the extended home warranty. Single speed can be pretty obnoxious when are trying to go a distance, but I suppose it is one less thing to break. Starts pretty easy, so maybe not having electric start is okay. I bought it because I had a tiny garage and couldn't fit anything bigger in. 8 months later i moved and have a huge garage. If anyone wants to trade for a 24"...

Cheaply built. Broke within 5 minutes on first use. Sears did make it good however to some extent.

Haven't actually tried this machine(no snow yet) but got a good deal on last year's model with the highly regarded 175cc engine. The same engine is available this year and with a 3 year warranty, my family has no worries. .I especially like the narrow 22" mouth for our tight parking.

A nice snowblower, but I was disappointed that Sears didn't offer tire chains for this model. I had to buy them from a 3rd party website.
