Like all soldering iron, it does take some time to heat up. You could go with a soldering gun but that does a pretty rough job on some of those electronics where this is more accurate.
Heats fairly quick and gets good and hot even for medium size jobs, tips are horrible and melt like butter. I have been soldering for 25 years and know how to care for a solder iron, pre tinning tips and keeping them clean. The tips will get holes then litterally melt off after a few short uses.

This is a great tool for your home to fix electronic stuff at home. It takes around 2 minutes to heat up but works great then. the only issue I can tell is it is a little bit long and it makes you feel a bit uncomfortable when working on precise projects.
The solder iron is 30 watts and has a very nice stand that is both cute and functional. It worked well to solder what I was soldering and I did not burn myself. It was hot enough.
Craftsman Solder Iron, 30 watt. Good quality for the price. I found this item convenient. The quality is good for the 7 dollars I paid. Unfortunately at the Danbury Fair mall where i bought it , they did not have the sealing metal to be used.

The Craftsman 30 watt solder iron is great for my little jobs that I need it for in my shop. I use it to repair wiring connections on riding mowers, lawn tractors, buggies, 4 wheelers, any anythng else that needs an end soildered on. It's not made for big jobs but definatley works for what I need it for. If I trash it out, I just go and buy another one as it is pretty cheap to buy. Heat time is decent and gets hot enough to make decent joints on standard wiring connections. I have repaired a few electronic items in the house, but over all, it gets its use in the shop on lawn power equipment. I would not recommend this for heavy work, but for the regular wiring connector type work it is an OK item to have in the tool box out in the shop or on your work bench.
Ok this is a basic 30W iron that does the job, this iron makes a good back up unit for professional users and it works equally well as a primary unit for hobbyist and diy selfers. It has good balance and a 1 year warranty The iron barrel material is nickel steel that will rust if not taken care for; avoid touching it and be sure to clean it up before storing wipe some dry lubricant such as LPS1. Also be sure to keep the tip tinned and clean from soldering fluxes. GOOD VALUE TOOL 4 STARS
