Craftsman  String Trimmer Replacement Spool 20 Ft. Capacity

I bought the trimmer last spring and used the pre installed spool all summer. This year I needed to replace the spool with the bonus spool that came with the trimmer. The line ends are not as shown here. They are too short to allow installantion. When I tried to lengthen them the spool unravelled and I couldnt rewind it. Bought a new spool and took precautions (Used rubber bands) to keep the spool fron unravelling when I lengthened the starter line ends. That worked well, but the new spool still does not feed evenly. I have one entirely wasted spool and now one that works but not smoothly--too much waste.

I purchased two spools. The first spool kept coming off the spool as I tried to trim about 25 feet of grass. Then I loaded the second spool and it did the same thing. I did not even bump the spool to release string.The string just kept coming out as I tried to trim grass. Worthless.

Twenty feet capacity is pretty weak. Goes through as spool in a few weeks.

I purchased a Craftsman Weed Whacker, 15" about two years ago.  I was excited because it was so much wider than a more common 12" one.  Somehow over the course of the winter, I misplaced the string spool to make it function.  I went to several Sears stores to find a replacement, but none of them are sold with spring that makes the clutch release when you "bump" the trimmer on the ground.  I'm sure the old spring is attached to the misplaced old spool.  I tried several Sears stores to find just a spring, then went to another home improvement store and found one - just to come home and realize it is too big... in its compressed state, it doesn't allow the spool to be locked into the trimmer.  I solved the problem with some high density foam padding stuffed in the chamber, to give the repacement spool the necessary springiness.

Sears needs to sell replacement spools with the spring inside them.  This was way too complicated for something that shold have been straightforward and simple.

I purchased a spool replacement for my trimmer. I was able to walk in and found it . Took just a few minutes.

When replacing original spool, you must remove the spring and retainer from that spool. This spring and retainer will be reused in new spool.

I bought the Craftsman string trimmer spool, it works great. If the string breaks all you do is bump the trimmer and more comes out. It is very high quality string. It does not break easily. The spool lasts all summer long. yes I would recommend it to everyone. I will buy 1 for my Dad too. I will use 1 in a box, I will use 1 with a fox...lol

i hate two line  they never work for me  but its all thay have for this trimmer

I had to get this spool because I got a used trimmer for way cheap at Sears, but it didn't have the spool.  Unfortunately, we then spent an hour or so trying to find a spring that would work for the "bump" feature so that it would actually work properly.  Granted, the spring isn't costly, but it's something you should know going into it.  If you've got the old spring, go for it.  If you don't, you should probably find a spring or a different spool.  Over all, it does the job I need it to.
