Product Description

Fast, Effective Lawn Care with the Craftsman Universal Spreader

The Craftsman universal broadcast spreader evenly distributes fertilizer, seed, granular lime or sand over your lawn. The universal spreader includes a hitch pin that fits any brand lawn, yard or garden tractor. It spreads lawn material outward in a circular motion up to 12 feet in diameter, distributing resources over a greater coverage area than spreading by hand. Lawns and gardens will grow thick and lush when seed and fertilizer are applied properly, and root development will be strong and deep with fewer plants competing for the same amount of sunlight, nutrients and water.

The Craftsman universal spreader has a polyethylene hopper that resists rust and corrosion, as well as a heavy-duty steel tubular frame capable of supporting up to 100 pounds. Rubber turf tread wheels roll smoothly over lawns and bumpy terrain. The black spreader carries the Craftsman name. Its solid construction and consistent performance are backed by a 1-year warranty.

  • Craftsman universal broadcast spreader keeps lawns and soil beds strong and healthy
  • Universal spreader connects to any bran lawn, yard or garden tractor
  • 100 pound capacity covers up to 18,500 square feet (1/2 acre) per load

  • Heavy-duty pre-assembled steel tubular frame supports up to 100 pounds per load

Universal spreader
I wanted to use compost in the spreader. The spreader can not handle compost. For the granular fertilizer the spreader works great.

craftsman broadcast spreader

purchased first spreader and parts were missing , returned and picked up another one and the axel was bent and would not roll, returned and picked up another one and the axel was bent on this one and wheels would not roll. after three spreaders i gave up and went to ***** and got one that worked. quality control on this item is terrible.made six trips to sears and the frustation of returning and purchasing each item was a terrible experience. other purchases from sears have been very good but this one was awful.

Overall A Good Purchase

It can be a bit finicky to adjust the spread rate, but it made short work of what was once a much longer task. I am sure glad I have mine!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsman Universal Broadcast Spreader

The spreader is very easy to put together. It tows well and cleans out quick. It has a much nicer handle for adjusting the amount being spread then other brands.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
The spreader gets the job done but the construction is poor.

Based on the catalog picture I thought that I was getting the next size up spreader, i.e. the one that has a 130 lb capacity, but I had bought the lower size. However, that's OK but the construction was not up to the Sears standard. The wheels are fixed on with a friction-fitted end-piece which is hammered on in place. Although I took care with my hammer, the fitting fell off on the first use. This is a very poor & cheap way to fix wheels on. To fix the wheel on I drilled a hole in the axle fitting the wheel on using a cotter pin to keep it in place. Hopefully this will work better that the hammered fitting. The spreader works OK but the gear is very stiff & it may eventually reach the point that the wheel will not turn - I hope I am wrong!

Great spreader

Purchased this spreader online and it took a week to arrive at local store for pick up. Easy assembly and ready to use in no time. Use 50 pound back with no problems, nice distribution of the grain fertilizer. Must say it took a couple of try's to get the desired spreading setting. Agree with other reviews about the handle been to short but will also make adjustment to make longer later. Overall great product and look forward to many years of use. Two weeks later after application and our lawn is perfect green!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Gears bind. Drive wheel locks up.

I am an engineer so seeing the issue with this spreader is pretty easy, unfortunately I bought it online sight unseen. Once I had it and was able to see the flimsy set up for the geraring and worse, experiencing the binding up I was very unhappy. I used grease and ran the spreader around for an hour trying to get the gears worn in so that it worked to no avail. All I did was make drag marks in my lawn. Returning this today.

Broadcast spreader works great after minor modification

Nice spreader. The assembly was fairly easy. It has a nice uniform spreading pattern. I needed to add a 1/4 inch bushing between the 6 tooth sprocket and the axel shaft bushing because there was too much movement in the sprocket shaft that caused the sprocket to bottom out on the gear and bind. Once that was done the spreader shaft turned easily. Another thing to note is that even though it's advertised as a 100# spreader, I couldn't get two 50# bags in it. Only a Bag and a half or 75#. The control handle was easily reachable when using my small lawn tractor, but not so much with my larger garen tractor. I fixed that problem by simply slipping a long piece of aluminum pipe over the control handle so I didn't have to reach down over the back of the tractor seat.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good choice

I purchased this spreader as a replacement for the bottom of the line model (70 pound capacity, I believe) that I returned. This unit was MUCH better. It was easy to assemble and the spreader control was much more accurate than the other one as this uses a stiff metal rod for the control, not a flimsy cable. While not perfect, it is a good unit and easy to operate.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
universal broadcast spreader

picked up at store, assembly took 20 minutes, directions are good. had to remove my bagger to attach to my craftsman tractor, expected I would have to with any brand. spreader worked as designed, I ran 60lbs of fertalizer and 50lbs of grass seed on the first day, takes some trial and error to get your setting correct. only draw back so far in the on/off handle is too short to reach while sitting on the tractor and if you stop the product continues to flow out of the spreader making a pile on the ground. I will extend the handle myself to you can reach it while sitting on the tractor.
