IT'S SUPPOSED TO TURN SLOWLY !!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this just for the fact that it turns slowly. A machine that turns slowly is superior for sharpening tools because It produces a better longer lasting edge. If you want something that turns faster buy a bench grinder. I use this to put a quick edge on my knives then I finish them up with a whetstone and a leather strop like barbers use to sharpen their razors. I'm writing this because of the negative reviews I've seen here where the reviewers say it turns too slowly. This is what it is supposed to do.

      people expect too much
I have noticed that the wheel is SLIGHTLY off, but all in all is quite sufficient to put a good edge on anything I sharpen, provided I follow up with a swipe or two on a fine stone, which is the proper method anyhow. I'm not sure what others expect when they purhcase something, but I expect functionality and operation. both are present in this unit. If you don't know how to use power tools to sharpen blades, you will not like this unit. My only complaint is I've worn my wheel down enough to need a replacement, but cannot find one

      Poor quality

DOA. Sharpened one knife. Ran for 5 minutes until motor slowed, started smoking and quit. Unfortunately, I did not open this upon immediate purchase so I am SOL as far as returning it. Don't waste your money. I've seen similar complaints from others regarding the motor.

      works good while it lasts

inside there are two drive belts that will denigrate with age, not overuse, but with age. poor quality. sears-parts will sell you the belts but can not ship them because they can only back-order them (forever) form the manufacturer (who apparently does not have them). I'm finding parts for craftsman harder to receive and they act like it's your fault that you tried to order parts from them and get tired of waiting , "well, its on back-order", forever i guess.

Gets the job done for the right cost

I use this when a blade gets really dull. I use it to re-set the bevel. I then finish up with an angle sharpener (Spyderco Sharpmaker is excellent). I use this freehand on moderate priced knives such as Swiss Army and Case. I wouldn't use it on my really expensive knives as there is some margin for error. For the cost it is excellent. This is the only slow turning sharpener I've found for under $100. Compact (relatively) size is nice also.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not a sharpener for the craftsmen

If you want to really sharpen good knives, blades, chisels etc, look for another sharpener. The speed is way to slow, the stone is too coarse and drum wobbles when it turns.

      Great for the price!

I was looking for a sharpener for my new hobby of wood turning. I was not sure if I would like the hobby so I did not want to spend too much for a sharpener. This sharpener cost me less than $ 60.00. It works fantastic with my chisels!! The only downfall is the plastic tool supports.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      PERFECT ON THE JOB TOOL

This machine does exactly what it says it will do. hone blades. If you want to grind blades buy a grinder with 1600 rpm and a 40 grit wheel. If you don't know the difference maybe you should not play with sharp things.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      craftsman utility sharpener 211741

I thought this sharpener great once I figured out the angles for the guides. I wish it had a better system for the guides. Like an auto lock for chisels, One for knives, one for scissors . Also Sears does not carry a 220 grit stone for this sharpener and I would like to buy one. All in all I would recomend this tool to a friend for lite work. Anyone have a link for a 220 grit stone that fits this sharpener

I would recommend this product to a friend.
